In this tip I am talking about a slight variation to my Vertical to Vertical drill. This is a great drill to be doing when you are working on trying to get your wrists looser, working on lag and trying to cure any chicken wing. I have been having some great feedback and I started thinking of a very slight variation to the original frill and how this could work for some people that might not work for. You can be thinking of your thumbs and where they are pointing. Give this drill a try the next time you have a golf club and see if this will work even better than the Vertical to Vertical.

BryanBeasleyGreat drill. I like that you can do it anywhere without a club. Just to be clear, is this just to get the feel of looser wrists, or should I actually hinge that early in the backswing? Or wait until hands are past trail leg in backswing to hinge? Thanks.

Paul WilsonBryan,
Glad you liked it. Yes, you are doing this to loosen your wrists. You would be coiling back first then allowing them to hinge. So follow the takaway and coiling tips once you feel you are hinging loose enough. I thought I talked about that in vertical vertical tip 3.

SueTeeGreat Power Leak series Paul! Love this drill, same question as above – change one piece takeaway from YL to hinge first? More of a VL takeaway?

kazzakNot sure what was going on. Had a 2 month break from playing golf, had two rounds and was worst I had played. I could barely get the ball into the air.
Went to the driving range yesterday and initially was doing ok, but not too great. Then I remembered this drill. I had a go and….. wow within a few minutes ball is air bourne and travelling much further (around 20-30 yards) and my swing is less agressive and smoother.
Literally, no kidding, within a few minutes as mentioned in this video.
