JohnBensonI noticed this in your swing or year or so ago with your driver. It was a slow-motion front shot does showing you firing your hips first. But I noticed your driver skittering across the grass in your backswing.
I’ve adopted this since then and it really helps widen my arc. One of my Simple swing thoughts this past year has been “width and leverage” which helps create some of my better shots.
Also being an artist I love the paintbrush!

Paul WilsonJohn,
Yes, in no way am I picking the club up going back. If you use your arms you will not get the brushing. This one should help you take it back better.

DonaldSchwassHI Paul. I have an off base question. I am consistently breaking the top of my tees off on my drives. I am hitting the ball well, and usually land 230-235. Is this telling me my angle is to steep? My ball flight is a slight fade by choice, so not sure if that affects the result. just see all pros, including you, pop the tee out of the ground consistently. I never do. Any advice is really helpful. Love being part of you Ignition golf program, it has dropped me into single digits and much more consistent. Thanks. Don

Paul WilsonDonald,
Yes, you can do this with a descending blow. The slight fade is telling you this is happening. I would be working on staying behind it a little more. I am not thinking about sweeping it just happens. When I get people who sky the ball they break the tees where you are describing.

I would be doing this at home in practice swings:
Up In The Air Drills – Body Tilt: https://ignitiongolf.com/air-drills-body-tilt/
DRILL: Swing Up with Driver: https://ignitiongolf.com/drill-swing-up-driver/
It’s a new different feeling but given you are hitting it pretty well this shouldn’t take you that long to master. Keep in mind you will lose consistency for a while until you get it.

wayneborbeyDear Paul, I have watched and studied your iron byron videos and they are terrific. You are a sincere guy and really want to help people. The paint brush tip reminds me of Bobby Jones and Julius Boros takeaways. They called it dragging the handle. I’ve used it and have hit the ball well and then for some silly reason discontinued it. After seeing you advocate it I’m going to use it again. God, I wish it was spring. Keep up the great work Paul. Wayne

Paul WilsonWayne,
Glad you like the videos. I appreciate the feedback.
Yes, I am sincere. I want people to get it. Sick of seeing people struggle when really it’s not that hard.
Yes, that drill is reminiscent of the older guys. We can learn a lot from them but they seem to be forgotten.
