  1. Merry Christmas, Paul. This is one of the drills I can do while I wait to have my shoulder examined this Thursday by an ortho pedic surgeon. Have been doing many of the recent drills that do not require me to make a full back swing. Hope this new Dr. can get me back on the course soon!

      Kimberly,

      Merry Christmas to you too!

Just do this in practice swings if you want. It is all about repeating it and getting used to the new feelings.

Paul, I wrote you recently about hitting everything low and left with the driver and could not figure out the cause even after practicing your drills that you sent about staying behind the golf ball and tilting for the driver. I finally deduced the problem. about 3 months ago I reviewed your tips on the grip and changed my grip, especially the right hand to follow your example. this grip change caused me — to want to close the face more for some reason– I think it was because with the strong right hand grip I had more under the club I ended up with the same position I started the swing with your neutral trip. Anyway, I practiced really shallowing the club from the top with a heavy tilt to the right, keeping angle of the club face more open due the the open position of the wrists while shallowing and low and behold I finally got the ball up in the air. Swinging at less than 50 % and going about 100 yards but up in the air. Thought you might pass this on to others having the same problem. To fix this problem even took 3 lessons with the club pro who could not see the problem. I fixed it on my own and hope to be hitting a lot further with time, but proceeding slowly to make sure it stays with me. best regards and Merry Christmas. Richard

      Richard,

      Glad you figured it out.

I would think you did the neutral grip and got hitting it right (because it is weaker) so you started to roll it too much. The roll over drill is a drill. You do this for a while to stop slice spin. I think you overdid it which shut the face through impact delofting it.

I like what you are doing and seeing results. Don’t go back to the strong grip. Just keep doing what you are doing at an easy pace and get confident that you are getting it in the air. As you keep doing this you will naturally go a little faster and start to add more distance. Once low left is a thing of the past then you can look at getting even more distance. For now be content with airborne and well hit.

      Glenn,

So many people out there with a chicken wing yet there are simple drills/habits that can easily fix it. Glad you are going to be doing it.

      John,

I thought I hadn’t heard from you in a while. Glad you are back and feeling better.

Just start from the beginning. Grip, setup then follow through first. Then work on coil and hinge. Do lots of practice swings. Shouldn’t take you log to get it back.

Great drill i was trying to slow down and just couldnt slow down. Met up with our club pro and he had me do the exact drill, only he made me put 90 % of my weight on front foot. I re watched your video and of corse you just do it.
Happy new year see you in a couple of weeks

      Don,

I wouldn’t be starting with 90% if the weight on the foot. Hopefully, you weren’t being told to do that. At this through point the weight should and would be 90% so if you can swing through to that point that would be a good thing.
