GREETINGS COACH , MR.KLOVES, sorry for the confusion, what I should have said was four knuckle grip, the one we use to chip with using a putting stroke motion,no hinge in the wrist. SORRY. Now for my question .From driver down to the 7 iron,i use hybrids4-5-6,most of the time the ball goes straight but lately, on some shots, the ball will start out straight and then at the end of it flight it starts to move right, I am right handed, lands and rolls further right. I know RIGHT =TO TIGHT,am I not unhinging quick enough at the bottom of the swing?

    • John,

First you need to check your alignment because your stance is closed. This means you are coming over the top and slice it slightly. Once you do that you will see the ball pull then slice. Now you know what you are doing you can fix it. First, do the roll over in practice swings loosening up your wrists. Then tee it up. Do the roll over an hook some shots. Once you can hook 5-10 in a row then switch your thought to legs and hips. If they start first you will hit it dead straight.

Moral of the story you have tightened up and are using your arms. Anytime you see these shots with slice spin you need to be doing the roll over so you stop that spin.

  2. Hi Paul, so what grip strength out of 10 does the beep start with that club? It continued beeping throughout your swing. Is that because your grip was maintained, or was it due to centrifugal pressure?
    Thanks

    • Leigh,

It started to beep around 6 out of 10. It continued to beep because I went up to 8 out of 10 to the top and into the down and through swing. As I show in tonight’s tip you want a secure grip and loose wrists. Make sure you watch that one.

  3. Mr Hoyle Thanks for the clarification; I will await Paul’s response. TRK

    • Thomas,

He was talking about chipping and how you don’t hinge your wrists whereas in pitching and swing you do hinge and re-hinge.

Discovered I am a chicken winger, head too rigid over the ball, both feet firmly planted, evenly distributed weight through almost all of the swing, almost non-existent backswing and decided to try loosening the grip.

Whilst I can’t do the high backswing yet(will work on that), the grip loosening has helped take away my natural slice I had, and I’m getting more consistent distance too, however, I seem to be holding it so loose in training that it’s jarring my hands and wrists on impact, causing pain. Obviously I need to hold it a little more tightly now. How do I find the grip pressure balance? Any tips?

Paul: I’m getting a sore on the outside of my right hand ring finger. I used to use an interlock grip. Now I’m trying to use the overlap grip as you have suggested. This is causing my blister/sore. What do you suggest? Thanks, Ron Z

      Ron,

Good you made the switch. I like the overlapping a lot better.

Problem is you are just grabbing onto the club. This is causing the fingers to rub. Usually it is the left index finger but sometimes it is the right ring. Watch this tip. It should explain what to do.
