Hi again, Paul
Since my 3-14 reply to this drill, I took it to the golf course I play most often (Oak Creek Golf Club, Irvine, CA) and using just the image of a ball directly opposite my front hip to trigger my turn to that imaginary ball, I had my best ball striking round in recent years. I hit all 14 fairways reasonably near the center with drives that averaged 240 yards (good for me, a 71 year old!) and hit 8 greens in regulation plus 3 of the 4 par 3’s on this difficult 6500 yard course (also good for me!). Unfortunately I had 40 putts so my score was disappointing but I was so pleased with my ball striking and the effortlessness of my full swings that I was not bummed out by the 90 I shot.
I think the drill worked for me because (1) it replaced often conflicting back, transition swing and arm swing thoughts with a simple visual image. (2) Your drill got me to turn my hips until my belt buckle faced parallel left of my actual target in stead of stopping my hip turn when my buckle faced the flag (or other target) which avoided deceleration and enabled me to reach my full finish positions. (3) Your drill also took my mind off my arms during the downswing so effectively that I had no conscious knowledge (or concern) about what they were doing, another first for me! (4) Swinging the club by turning my belt buckle to the imaginary ball also made the swing so effortless that I wished I could play another 18 holes — a feeling I have not had in many years. Plus (5) I tried this drill in my family room on my 5 and 8 year old grandsons — without a ball, of course — and, to my surprise, it morphed the tortured, corkscrew-like swing of my 5 year old into a good looking swing and motivated him to want to get back out on the golf course SOON. Amazing!
In short, this tip “spoke to me” in ways very few do. I guess YOU can actually “teach an old dog new tricks!”
Good Morning Paul from a very sunny muscat Oman. i just want to thank you for your excellent instruction. Three months ago i was about to give the game up ( I’m 58) i was hooking and pushing the ball. Id taken lessons but they were all very complicated and technical. you on the other hand kept it simple and easy to follow. Ive put in the practice time to follow your lessons. In three months my handicap has gone from a struggling 18 to an easier 10 and I started to creep up the ladder on competitions culminating in this weekend where I came 2nd in the club championships amongst 170 golfers. Thank you for getting me there and more importantly for getting me to a position where i can enjoy the game and know what a perfect high draw feels like once more. Incidentally as an aside my usual back pain has gone and i can only put that down to the simplicity of me swing that you teach.
Man I just had to send you a thank you. I’m a 10 handicapper and I’ve been playing like an 18+ for months. In desperation I searched youtube for “how to hit a driver” and happened upon your video stressing limp, loose movements. I went to the range, worked on it, and shot a 79 on my very first round using that technique. Had two tap in birdies on Par 3s. This after posting a 92 last round, and previous rounds all in the high 80’s and low 90’s.
I’m certain I’ve had rounds where I clipped the ball so regularly, but those days seemed so far away. I pured my irons and crushed my drives simply by watching your video and practicing the technique at the range.
You’re a genius, but your generosity of positing this online, for free, is astonishing.
I can assure you that I will be ordering something from your web site immediately. My catholic upbringing assures that the guilt I now have from receiving such a wonderful gift of getting my game back cannot go without a tangible token of appreciation!
Thank you….thank you…thank you, and God bless you Sir.
Thanks again for your vids, Your tips, especially this last even though it repeats what you have been saying all along, in conjunction with the slinger golf training device are helping me find a swing that is repeatable and easy. Woo hoo!
Paul…just wanted to pass along my sincere Thanks for your simple, yet logical swing instruction. It has changed my life! I will be in Vegas in October & will look you up to see if we can do a lesson together. Thanks again for what you are doing to help our games!
I’d like to thank Paul Wilson for his Youtube videos. My golf game improved 100% after watching and following his instructions. Paul is absolutely the best golf instructor around. Iv’e taken lessons from professionals and watched the Golf Channel (Golf Fix) but none of it helped until I found Paul on Youtube. He makes the techniques simple and easy to understand. He has an incredible talent for teaching.
Thanks for the offer. I am currently working on the ignition golf DVDs etc that I bought. I can honestly say that after over 15 years of playing and at best achieving a 13 handicap with my arm’sy swing I have decided to stop looking at all other golfing websites, instruction and golfing DVDs and commit 100% to your approach to the golf swing…… That’s how sure I am that you have the answer to consistency and distance.
Thanks so much.
“Hi, Paul…your instruction videos are the best I have watched! Simple and useful tips! Good Job!”
Thanks so much for your response! The first of your two recommendations is exactly what I was looking for (I believe it is a refined edition). More impressive is the fact you got back to me-I appreciate your help and time.
FYI-I’m a 71 year old retiree that plays golf two/three times a week with my wife. We live Michigan, played private for 23 yrs, dropped out last year, played 34 courses last year, the leaves are changing colors, the weather perfect, life is great and now I have my secret golf tip!
Based upon sessions of 95 to 100 wiffle balls hit at a target 22 yards away and measuring alignment as follows:
Within 3 degrees left or right of center pin (Green) (Often on fairway shots)
Greater than 3 degrees but less than 6 degrees left or right (Yellow) (On fairway only on most forgiving courses)
Greater than 6 but less than 10 (marginal) (Pink) (In the woods)
Unplayable greater than 10 degrees (Red) (Not even worth looking for.)
On July 10th after returning from a week-long, no-golf fishing trip, I put together several dozen “leg-propelled arm swings” with perfect on-target results. I finally felt what you have been talking about so I could reproduce it with increasing frequency. It is also showing on the course with Zero slice errors and most errors playable pulls. I still have a lot more work to do but seeing discernible and repeatable progress is really exhilarating.
Just want to let you know how your instructions & tips (though I haven’t seen all of them) opened my eyes. The easier I try to hit, the better I play. Thank you indeed for the detailed & profound knowledge of “truly-good” Golfing.
Due to my busy schedule (with lots of travelling abroad), I am not able to take up your “last chance offer” yet but what I can do now is to tell you how efficient your in-depth analysis & teaching techniques are. I appreciate them & simply want to send my compliment to you from as far as Switzerland.
thanks for the info Paul. i think your youtube tips excellent. trying to absorb them- its a lot to take in. i will join eventually. in the meanwhile have forwarded them to some friends struggling with their game. isnt it great that golf is so difficult…
all the best,
Mr. Wilson, I have read and watched about everything I could to learn and improve my game. The most important point is “distance” since following an accident I had to switch from lefty to right handed golf. Never achieved what I could do from the natural left-handed swing. Anyway what I want to say is that your explanations of what topic you are covering is more than I ever heard. I am working on what you told me so far through your free video offer and I just want to thank you. I don’t know if I will succeed in driving distances over 200 yards but if I do it will be because you showed me how to !
