KennthBovaPaul, great video. I am swinging in front of the window of my garage and what I see looks good. At the course, when I put a ball in front of me, I completely mess it up. If only I could make the ball invisible and then after hitting it, it becomes visible. My mental game is alot off.

Paul WilsonKenneth,
This is because you are trying to hit the ball. Here is how to take it to the course:

johnhoyleGreetings Paul ok ok I have a question that i think i already know the answer but i hope i can be reinforced by you In doing your favorite drill, with my arms as turned off as best i can right now, if, on the back swing my shoulders turn , my hips a bit i start the downswing by turning my belt buckle and my knees touch, without hitting a ball could i be somewhat ok to think i was doing it right or would the ball flight be the true test

Paul WilsonJohn,
Yes. As you take the club back you will be doing so with your shoulders. This will turn your hips the appropriate amount as you go back. You then uncoil with the lower body. This uncoils the upper body and the club goes along for the ride because your arms are connected to your body.
This is a drill. Right now don’t even care about the ball. Get good at this and it will go into your swing later. I think I have talked about this many times. The average person is concerned with the ball. Better players are concerned with the movement. Perfect movement equals perfect shots. Good shots without perfect movement is luck.

LenKoblenzHas anyone mentioned a problem with balance? Your swing looks
fluid and effortless. I sometimes feel like I am about to topple
over. Do I just need practice and repititions?
Thanks again,
Len

Paul WilsonLen,
I just did 2 tips on this here:
Stay In Balance Throughout Your Swing: https://ignitiongolf.com/stay-in-balance/
Stance Width Affects Your Swing: https://ignitiongolf.com/stance-width-affects-your-swing/
My swing is fluid and effortless. Why are you not trying to copy what I am doing?

TIMADAMSPaul
the baseball throwing always messes me up a/c I was a ballplayer and we always STEPPED and THREW so that really throws me
May 14, 2014
Paul WilsonTim,
So don’t step. If you were a ball player you already know how to throw with your legs and hips. It is the same move. Yes, you need to do it a little differently without the step. It is the concept and feel you already know. Now you need to apply to your golf swing. So narrow your stance and keep doing it every night until you are comfortable with it. Repeat repeat repeat.

Great tips as always
I know you have done a ton of tips on powerless arms and using your body but I’m still struggling with this area I’m finding it incredibly hard to turn my arms off is there any other tips tricks that you have to help

Paul WilsonDavid,
There is no trick. There is you not trying to kill it. You need to forget about the ball. Slow right down and just get the concept. This is new so you are not good at it. If you never try it you will never get it.
To me it is mind blowing that some people cannot do this. Just try it. Who cares where the ball is going? Get it. Then get good at it.
If you keep doing what you are doing you will NEVER EVER EVER get it.
So try something TOTALLY DIFFERENT.
Tee it up. Try to do the slowest, easiest swing ever! If you are swinging at this pace there is NO WAY you will hit a long shot so FORGET where the ball is going. Accomplish the goal. The goal is doing a full swing at 1mph or very very slowly. Focus and do 1. Once you do, do it again. Then again and again. Get used to this. Once you are then you speed up ONLY the rotation of your lower body to make the ball fly farther.
DRILL: This Is The Best Drill You Should Be Doing Right Now: https://ignitiongolf.com/drill-three-quarter-distance/
DRILL: Do It Right at 1MPH https://ignitiongolf.com/right-at-1mph/
Just Try It: https://ignitiongolf.com/just-try-it/
Another way to do this is get something you value in life (small object not too expensive). Go in your backyard with a club. Do a swing with this object in the way of the club. If you go hard you will break it. If you go slow you will gently touch it. Get used to it. REMEMBER, this is how easy you should be swinging. Then understand that in the future you will be spinning your body faster to get more clubhead speed.

DavidCalvertIt’s mind blowing to me that I can’t turn my arms off all the time ha ha
It’s getting there slowly I’m sure I’ll get it soon enough no matter how long it takes
After seeing some of the shots I can hit when my arms are off wow can’t wait till I can achive this regularly
Many thanks

Paul WilsonDavid,
Keep doing the practice swings at home. This way there is no ball to hit and you can keep working on turning them off.
May 20, 2014
DavidCalvertThanks
It’s been a real challenge to turn them off I’ll keep working on it
I’m also trying to decide witch method of the downswing trigger works best for me
I was using straightening the right leg however this caused me a fair bit of pain in my knee so I have that one up and now am tossing up between touching the left leg to the right or just turning
Do you think one has an advantage over the other ?
Many hanks

RaymondCHASTELExcellent lesson ,again,Paul :basics ,basics ,basics! Now you have to show us how to speed up the hip turn ,in synchrony with the upper body.Slowly ,slowly ,but definitely ,my clubhead speed and distance of the tee is moving up :occasionally ,but rarely ,my upper body and arms are slow to follow the lower body ,and my tee shot goes (Sightly) left .This happens now less and less often.
Thanks to your excellent teaching my golf is improving.
A question:when I swing from the turf I never have a practise swing touching the grass:I just take a single loosening up practise swing in the air .
Is this right or wrong?

Paul WilsonRaymond,
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Yes, do the practice swings just off the ground. This is exactly what you need to be doing.
