  1. If you think of turning your left shoulder under your chin far enough in the backswing ,then the impulse of the forward rotation of the hips ,fired by the strong push if the right instep ,will automatically bring the legs to touch in the throughswing. Most times ,as far as I am concerned(May not apply to other golfers ),it’s my own laziness or carelessness to turn the left shouder under my chin which is the cause of failing to touch the legs in the thoughswing .

    • Raymond,

As much as you think this is going to happen it rarely does. Coiling is the first important step. With the coil you will hit. So I like that you are thinking of it and trying to do it.

  2. I can do the touch legs most of the time. When I don’t, I realize that finishing on the tip of my right toe is uncomfortable and something I would try to avoid. You’ve mentioned thousands of times Paul, that human nature is to avoid these feelings. As you said, it takes work. Thanks for a great site and taking the mystery out of the golf swing

    • Martin,

Yes, definitely takes work. Just go to get used to the new feeling and movements. To do this though, you cannot worry about the ball. This is one of the hardest things I have to overcome when teaching.

  3. Hey Paul, Let me explain my understanding of
what is happening with my swing and this move and you fill in the holes. When I finally did this move fully as described above in that circular motion all of a sudden I felt this power in my swing from what felt like just the last few inches of the right hip completing the turn. I felt for the first time that I could finally get my ass into it and that my turn is not finishing before impact allowing my legs, hip and butt cheek to add power and then hit the ball. I never fully completed those last few inches of the right hip coming around which seems to make all the difference. Is what I described what should be the order of the swing? As opposed to what I’ve always done in the past by getting to the left side in many different ways, all before impact and hitting the ball after fully on left side and no distance. You know sliding by.

  4. This is a simple overall swing thought when playing. I was having the worst day ever at the range yesterday so decided to only think about ending in the follow through with the body facing the target. Suddenly I was hitting it way better. Helps me connect my upper and lower as well as i feel like i am hanging too much back when firing the lower.
    Anyways, good swing thought this!

    • Stian,

Very good. Need to be powering the swing with your legs and hips. Never forget it.

Thought this would be a really good overall swing thought?
I try to get the club and body all the way around while initially keeping my nose over my back instep. Would you agree?

          Stian,

All the way around in the backswing or follow through. Hopefully you mean the backswing and yes, this would be a good though. Follow through not so good.

  5. The FT should stop when the club is perpendicular to the target line like you show here, right?

    • Yes, this is enough rotation through. Any less and you could push the ball and anymore would be overkill. Some tour pros go through more, but they would be extremely flexible.

    My legs don’t touch.
Is it because I don’t rotate far enough?
