Paul, can you see 50 or 60 years with this amount of flexibility? As we lose our flex some coaches recommend pushing the right hip pocket back. I wish I’d seen your methods 30 years ago. I’ve made solid improvements over past 12 months but I find I’m letting the grip go when trying to get the club behind the ears. Is this common?

      Warren,

It really doesn’t take that much to learn how to coil your maximum amount. Sure, people are tight but when you don’t know what you are even trying to work on it’s tough to loosen up. So these coaches are recommending cheating to turn. This does create a longer backswing but it also puts you in a position to pull the club down to hit the ball. The harder you hit, the tighter your wrists the slower the club swings. Why not just go with what you’ve got but loosen the arms and wrists. The looser something is the faster it swings. Doing this alone in your current swing would produce more power (even without coiling anymore).

Yes, a lot of people let go of the club going back. This is a false sense of loosening the wrists. The grip should be secure. Only the wrists are loose. Watch the tips below for increasing flexibility and loosening the wrists:

      Do this drill nightly:

Hi Paul. Is it ok to try to manually hold the lag? Looking at my own swing I can see that I’m loosing it.
