good points but how do you tell if the putt is with or against the grain?

      Michael,

Shiny grass against grain. Dark grass into grain. Not all greens have grain that will even affect your putts. Typically this is seen when greens have been over-seeded with 2 different types of grass. Here is Vegas the grain is not present and does not affect putts. Florida is a different story. When I lived there it the grain was severe.

          Michael,

The way to put great in Florida is to play half the break. Once I figured this out I really putted well. Give it a try.

Paul,To m’y knowledge and from m’y expérience ,the best way to ” feel ” the slope is to walk as close as possible to the ball to hole line and ” feel ” the Green with YOUR plants OF YOUR feet .Be careful not to walk the Line ,it’ s forbidden ,nor to close to it ,it’s also forbidden ,according to a récent ruling .
It’s amazing how YOUR feet are réceptive OF the soil incline .

Great site Paul, Just gets better & better!

  4. Paul ,Could you give us some insights into the AIMPOINT technique .Some Pro’s on the tour use it .

    • Raymond,

I now a little about it. I am not an expert. I do know the guy who teaches it in this area. Will be meeting up with him at some point. Hopefully, I can shoot a few tips.

  5. This is a great tip for me as I approach the hole. I realize from this video I like looking for clues and reading the greens.
I’m surprising on some of my miss-reads though and looking at the back of the greens undulation will help.

Chipping and putting are one of my favorite things to do in golf and this will just add to my arsenal!

    • John,

Exactly. Few people do look around. This is the first thing I am doing. Get used to it and it will help a lot.

    Paul,

How far away will a “lump” in the green affect the break of a putt? I would imagine that these “lumps” create a subtle effect for quite a ways.
