  1. Excellent and simple reminder ,Paul:should be followed by every sensible amateur of the game . You mention in this video your “narrow ” stance .Mine is narrow only for the high numbered irons .For the Driver ,Fairway Woods ,long hybrds ,the inside of my heels is distant as much as the outside of my shoulders(I lay a rod on the ground with marks on it to make sure !I measured with a tape my shoulder width ) .So when I follow through my knees don’t touch together they “look at each other “but don’t touch.
I do make sure however that I thrust them forward energetically in the downswing
On the Tour events I Watch nearly every day (SHELL HOUSTON OPEN today ) ,the stance of most of the Pro’s is much wider than what you recommend …
Of course I’m not of Pro caliber !

    • Raymond,

I don’t like a stance that is too wide. The wider the stance the harder it is to shift your weight. I’ve also taught people with really wide shoulders and short stature. Do I tell them to be shoulder width? It’s a feeling of shoulder width not reality. I still like the legs to touch with driver but the back leg would be dropped back 1 balls width due to the wider stance.

Yes, you are not a pro. They have hit thousands of balls that way plus if they are not physically touching how are you ever going to do it exactly the same every time. To do this you would have to look down at it. Why would you want to do this? Instead why not feel them perfectly touching each time. This way you will know you did the same position.

  2. Following on from Raymond,I’ve had a few lessons from my local pro as a gift. He’s a good fellow but keeps telling me he would like to see me play my shorter irons off the middle of my stance.
In fact he tells me he thinks most of my irons are positioned too far forward. I do visualise your method for ball position on all my set ups.
    Any thoughts?

    • David,

I with lower irons I want you playing them 2 balls inside the forward heel. If so, plus your narrower stance you would be center or slightly forward of center so this would be pretty close to what he is saying. You need to practice width of stance and ball position. I just did this tip:
