Paul, I’m consistently hitting the ball on the heal of my irons and driver with shanks every twenty shots. Are heal/shanks caused by hitting over the top?

    Thanks Chris

I’m staying back, feeling like I’m swinging from the inside. But now I’m hitting my irons fat. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Paul, I have enjoyed discovering your teaching approach. It has very much impacted my golf positively. I say to friends I have the secret to golf, even to my instructor. He says “are you going to tell me?” And I say, you already know, it is what you have been trying to teach me for a decade but I just couldn’t take in. Your approach, and powerless arms has had massive impact (clubhead speed and distance) and for my 12 yo daughter too, now hitting 200 yards.

One thing I would ask for your help on, and which I am now fixing. I still saw a bit of OTT especially with longer clubs, coming from standing up in backdating, which I now know is that I am simply bringing club too far inside on backswing. With shorter clubs I get a great 1 plane swing, but with longer problems were arising.

I don’t think I saw in your bodyswing course anything to help me get it on plane, more upright, getting a steeper backswing (from which the flatter swing tips might then be useful).

Can you point me to any drills to assist? (I did see the drop club on back of neck, which has been useful, but any others?) This might help my daughter too 🙂

I play off 7, have been to 5.1, and shot a 4 under gross to win our club championship once … Even with my “improving game”!

    Thanks Paul.

Is it good to tilt the upper body bac slightly at the beginning of the backswing or will that cause other problems such as reverse pivot? Thanks, Art

        Art,

You can but don’t over do it otherwise you may lose sight of the ball and/of hit the ground behind the ball because there isn’t enough room for the arc to clear. If you find yourself doing this just touch the legs better/faster in the downswing. This will stop too much tilt.

You’re right. I tried this at the driving range and was hitting behind the ball. First I tried choking down on the club which didn’t work great. Then I tried concentrating on turning my hips which worked much better. It often take me time to get the hip turn going when I play.

            Arthur,

Right, fat shots are too much weight on the back foot through impact. If you are trying to tilt more than you are used to you will hit the ground behind the ball. To fix it you do the touch the legs position better. Then you won’t be stuck on the back foot. Simple.

      Matt,

Great job. I lover hearing it. So glad your daughter is getting it too. She will be a player in the very near future.

To stop the inside, you need to work a little on the takeaway. Then as you get to 3/4 back you need to lift it up. I explain it in this tip:

      Lead Arm Rides Up: https://ignitiongolf.com/lead-arm-rides-up/

If you take it back inside you are already out of position. From set up I am just moving the Y back (between club and arms) with my shoulder coil. Typically, people are pulling it back with their hands or rolling the hands. If so, it will go inside every time.

      Ed,

Thanks. Just thought it might get people thinking about it and working on it. This is a big one. This is what got my game to a whole new level many years ago.

Paul, this cured my over the top since I got hurt last year I have not been able to get an inside-swing and looking behind the ball is a fantastic tip. I do feel like I’m losing power but my swing speed radar says otherwise lol, thanks again!
