My new slate will determine what to think to myself after a super tee shot or a shot that is trouble. This came to me when playing with a twosome, is Tom away this focused? Any guidance on what an any golfer should be doing, thinking when walking to two different shots?
Hello Thomas, after a good shot you need to think REPEAT not HIT THE NEXT ONE EVEN HARDER. This is the problem. They hit a good shot and think they are invincible. So they try to hit the next one even harder and end up hitting a poor shot. So remember the feel of the great shot and repeat it. I keep telling people to swing at no more than 50% when you play. Your 50% is 70-80%. Stick to this pace and you will hit the majority of shots great.
If you hit a bad shot you need to know how to fix it. This is in my products and tips under How To Fix Your Swing. You want to recognize the direction and spin of your shots. If you slice you need to do the roll over drill to loosen the wrists then try again always firing the lower body to hit the shot. If you pull/pull hook it you need to hold the club at knee high and do swings in the air. This is drill 2. In the air there is nothing to hit so it allows you to feel the legs and hips powering the swing. Once you get this feeling you apply this to your next shot and the shot should be on target.
So look for the Roll Over drill. I have tons of tips on this as well as my favorite drill the swing off the ground drill. Also, look up how to take your swing from the range to the course.
