In this tip I am talking about what the correct backswing length should be. I see so many golfers with long backswings and too short of backswings. But why is the backswing only supposed to be a certain length? What are the problems with having the incorrect length of swing? Check out your backswing length and then realize why it does or does not work for you.

DonaldForresterHi Paul,
Nice tip…. as a “more experienced” golfer I have limited thoracic motion… working on that.
I would guess you should just go back as far as it takes to coil with lead arm relatively short.
I tried to find video but was unable.

DonaldForresterI meant keeping the lead arm relatively straight not short… senior moment.
What do you think?

gerardstellwagenhow much tension should i feel in the shoulders at the top of the backswing?
March 1, 2021
Paul WilsonNot much, you should feel the muscles in your back tightening or coiling. This is the moment you know when to start the downswing. If you are feeling tension in your shoulders then you could be doing the coiling incorrect. Check out this tip:
