Thanks Paul. This whole series has helped me to recognize feelings through out the full swing. The one in particular is the loading on the back foot (right foot for me a right handed player) on the instep. I have had the tendency to over rotate, not coil, and get too much weight on the outside of the right foot.

I found in a a two-day tournament last weekend I had lost my ability to make accurate pitches and chips. I own your DVD series and I went back to the short game disk. How easily I forget some of the basics. I watched the pitching section. I went to our practice area one afternoon and worked on your teachings. Low and behold it works. Yesterday afternoon I went out and played 9 holes: birdie, par, par, par, bogie, bogie, par, par, and wouldn’t you know it I completely blew up on the 9th hole. But that is golf. There is a reason it is a four letter word. I will be back on the practice area and course this afternoon. Being retired it great. Following your system of golf instruction has made my game more enjoyable. Thanks.

      Peter,

Yikes! That sway is not good. Glad you found it and are working on it.

The short game most definitely works. Glad you reviewed that too! Now, keep working on it. This is what allows you to score when you are not playing your best.

    Paul,
as far as the lower body trigger I’ve trying”NOT TO HIT THE WALL”When doing practice swings I have a shaft stuck in the ground about 4″ from my left hip.Is this ok?

      Tim,

Not hitting the wall is good. This would be like turning your hips or belt buckle as the trigger. Just make sure you are not hanging back on the back foot through and past impact. This back heel lifts with irons and woods.

    Paul ,
Fine summing up of the “feelings “in the lower body .
    I feel the same .
What about the upper body ?Though the arms are “POWERLESS “you surely have sensations with the arms ,at the top of the backswing ,and in the downswing and follow through .
My sensation is I am manipulating a whip and have it crack in the throughswing

Greetings Coach I must tell you its hard to watch you all sunny and warm /no coat/ no boots / and me here all bundled up /oh well only 6 month to go/ I think the biggest change to my game / the biggest improvement/ was the swing trigger and powerless arms /My swing trigger “turn the buckle” allowed me to take my mind off the ball/ not trying to hit anything/ all the other elements of my swing seem to fall in line if i keep the trigger in mt head/i usually whisper it just before the back swing is complete/ Anyway /thanks again im a believer / looking forward to tomorrows tip

1 question about locking the lead leg.
Tiger has had several knee surgeries due to popping the lead leg.
Byron Nelson never locked the lead leg & had no knee problems.
Is it possible the locking of the lead leg could lead to knee problems?

    Thanks,louis

      Louis,

If you could snap you leg as fast a Tiger then maybe you would hurt your leg. I have been doing it for over 30 years and never had a problem. This is because my need is going straight back. It is not turning on a weird angle. If it was, I would not be having you do it.

I don’t want the leg to stay flexed. If you do you will slide which is what I am tying to have you avoid. Byron Nelson bowed the kneed after he hit the ball. He could have very well locked it if he wanted to. In other words his leg was straightening down to impact. Then instead of continuing this locking of the leg he bent it.

    Paul:
Your series on the swing has helped TREMENDOUSLY. So much that my guest and I won our flight at the Clubs Member-Guest.
I was a !2 capper when I started with you and now a 7. Even my friend could not believe how my swing had improved over the year.
    Thanks for everything.

Now, other than practice rolling the wrist to make them loose what else can I do to get that nice easy wrist roll you have in your videos. If there is anything that I feel I am hitting a wall with its that.

      John,

That’s great news. I love hearing it. Maybe your friend should join? Makes sense to me.

You just need to keep rolling them. There is no secret way other than continuous repetition. You need to do this at home, range and when you play. Also, you need to make sure the club is ending up exactly between your ears touching the metal shaft NOT the rubber grip. In other words start doing exactly what I am doing and you will get to low single digits in no time. Every move counts now. You need to do each position exactly right.

If it were me I would do a Skype lesson with Pete. Then you will know exactly what to work on.

    Hi Paul;
It’s normally taught that the downswing starts with the lower body before the arms are actually set at the top. I have about a 1 second pause at the top of the swing before I start anything moving. Think Shegeki Mariyama. I do start with my lower body & the pause actually allows for better timing when starting down. I’m just wondering if I might be losing a bit of power with the pause as it might reduce the whipping motion of the downswing. Thanks.

    Hi Again Paul:
To any readers and to you of course, this tip is PROFOUND ! ! ! ! Your methods have been working for me, but as you mention in many other videos – – GREMLINS ALWAYS START TO CREEP IN TO THE SWING, just as I’m feeling comfortable / confident with the whole process.
Case in point — I’ve tried your trigger (Back leg drive to the target) , but for me it did not seem to work, so I tried the (Front leg back trigger) and it WORKED ! My drives were suddenly finding the fairway more consistently ( and LONG! )

But after a few months, things stated to unravel. I thought I had a reasonable groove every round I golfed, same setup, same feelings ( I thought ) but then ——- GREMLINS !!!!
My drives were starting to consistently fade/push fade, ( but still playable ) and the main reason I found out was because of this tip!
It was very subtle, but by using the left leg trigger (forward leg) I was gradually, but slightly coming out of the shot, by not maintaining My Spine ANGLE as I thrust my left leg back.
One quick adjustment and VOILA ! STRAIGHT AND LONG !
I’m sorry for the LONG winded post , But my MAIN point is:

    1. Keep this video FRONT and CENTER in your Favourites, to remind all of us to not get complacent with our swings, and ALWAYS RE-Check your FEELINGS. IT WORKS !!!!!
    Sincerely
    Dave

      Dave,

Glad you liked the tip. Thanks.

As soon as you saw the fading shots you should have realized your wrists were starting to get tight. This occurs because when people play well they want to hit harder. The harder you hit, the tighter you get, the more open the face.

In your case maybe you were driving the lower body so hard you were jumping up which was causing you to come out of it.

      Watch:

      It’s a Turn Not A Jump: https://ignitiongolf.com/turn-not-jump/

In the future as soon as you see this spin appear immediate start doing my roll over drill in practice swings to get the wrists unlocked again. Then think body (trigger) when you actually hit your shots.

      Keep up the good work.
