    Paul,
I never had a clue how to get out of a fairway bunker. It was literally hit or miss. The two tips were right on. I was in one last round. I followed your instructions except I forgot to slightly open my stance so it went a little left. (I am a lefty). I still nailed a 6 iron to the green! You are right about the lack of footing but what a great lesson from you.
    Thanks,
    Rick

      Rick,

Very good. Glad this tip helped because these can be tricky shots. Once you know how to do them though it makes all the difference.

    Paul,

When you open your stance a foot or so, do you swing according to the way your feet are aligned or do you swing toward your target ignoring the position of the feet.

      Roy,

I don’t know if I would be opening my stance a foot. A few inches would be fine. I will be fading this shot so I need to be swinging left. Ball will fade right on target. If you didn’t swing left down the line of your body you would push fade it right of target.

Great explanation for fairway bunkers. What are your thoughts on a rule 28 drop in the bunker if you have an impossible shot out rather than chip it sideways?

If I am facing a high lip on a fairway bunker, do I play it like a greenside bunker?

      Gary,

Yes, when you open the face you are adding loft which will hit it high enough to get it out.

    Hi Great Vids Paul.
Could you alternatively close the club face a little before taking your grip (to counteract the fade due to the overuse of arms) and then align parallel to the target line as normal?

  6. I perused the other video on Fairway bunker shots and put in some questions which you did answer in this second video .
On my home course I have a fairway bunker with a low lip and the green is far away .I’m “reasonably “successful with 5 wood when the lie in the sand is good ,but it’s tricky to pull away and sometimes it’s a miss!…

    • Raymond,

Low lip and I would go for it. Even if you top it it would still roll up to where a lay up would be anyway. You hit it well and you could be on the green. High lip don’t play with fire!
