RaymondCHASTELYes ,Paul ,You are right ,there’s “forth way of sending the chipped ball to the right ,the horrible SHANKING .So I ‘m waiting for your next tip on the subject:when I shank a chip (not often ,but it happens at the worst of times usually !),it ‘s because I get tired at the end of a round ,I get careless in my set up ,set up too close to the ball or tilt forward on my toes !
On the subject of chipping ,I saw recently a replay of the 1982 BRITISH OPEN ,won by SEVE BALLESTEROS ,already hitting is main shots way right or left ,but a Recovery Genius and a Genius in the short game :he won with his chipping over two very good players ,NICK PRICE (At his best at that time ) and NICK FALDO ,just by chipping to the hole :he held the club much lower than you do, his hands on the steel shaft ,nearly crouching .I don’t go as low as he does ,my hand are down Midway the grip .
What do you recommend ?

Paul WilsonRaymond,
I am gripping down just above the metal shaft. On the metal and I don’t have the same feel. So grip down as low as you can not on the metal shaft.

RYDGJRPlease do the tip for shanking a chip shot soon. I have had that happen to me, especially when I attempt chips with a longer carry. I think I figured out my issue, but would be very interested in having you explain things in a tip. I think I get my weight too much toward my toes and also am guilty of looking up too soon when this horrible shot shows up. The short chips are fine.

Paul WilsonGary,
The weight is on your toes. If you start with the weight in the middle and you move onto your toes you are now closer to the ball than when first started.
Chipping is like putting. You wouldn’t putt with the weight on your toes. So use this thought when chipping.
Learn my technique here:

Then practice it this way:

All the while think of your putting setup as you do it.
