  1. Hi Paul, It’s an important tip. I kind of figured this out for myself based on other tips, and when I remember to do it I hit great shots. I just have to keep remembering. What I am writing about is your comment about taking a divot. I do that with 6 irons and shorter clubs, but with my 5 iron and certainly with my 3 and 4, I don’t. I think that I recall from other tips that you said that with the long irons you don’t take divots — you sweep the ball off the turf. Do I remember that correctly? Thanks. Lee

  2. Paul ,If you keep the arms “loose “or “powerless ” as you emphasize , you cannot do otherwise than extending both arms after impact .
As for me ,I Watch if my hands follow the “inner wheel ” and the clubhead the “outer wheel” ,both “wheels ” being concentric to each other.

    • Raymond,

Unfortunately, people are never loose enough so instead of waiting for them to eventually get it I want them to manually extend. At least this way they can feel exactly what the arms should be doing. I like the wheel image. I use this all of the time. Bicycle wheel. Arms are the spokes.

  3. This is always a good reminder for me because of my battle of the chicken wing. It’s slowly diminishing and I can really see the improved results.
My imagery for this is from your other video where you should feel like “your arms are coming out of the socket” what a visual!
Question: What is your weight distribution at the 3/4 point?since I tend to lay back a little bit at my finish which I’m working on at your 90%/10%. Is it about 70%/30%?

    • John,

I would be 90% at this point and into the follow through. If you hang back you will hit it too high and potentially hit fat shots. You really need to fully shift.

    Paul,
At the 3/4 thru, should the hips be facing the video, it appears that shoulders are a head of hips

This is a wonderful tip Paul!

I just thought of another analogy you might want to use to make your point.

Remind people what it’s like to throw a baseball.

When we throw a baseball our arm is straight out when we release the ball or pretty close to that point.

Our throwing arm is never folded up around our chest like you’re showing with the golf club and the chicken wing.

Ask people to think about throwing that baseball and how the arm gets extended as they release the ball.
Ask them to try to throw the ball while their arm is going into a chicken wing and it’s virtually impossible LOL

    just a thought!
