  1. Paul ,I don’t like this drill too much :I feel quite restricted when I do it !I prefer the other drill ,which gives the same connected effect ,with the tennis ball between the forearms at adddress ,like the GERMAN Pro does it (I just don’t remember his name at this moment ).
Of course your’s is better in the through swing ,as it obliges you to press the upper left chest against the left biceps.
I ‘ll give your drill another try ,just to make sure I’m really connected !

Hi Paul. Philip here from Ireland. Just wanted to let you know that I had my best round ever today – not in terms of score – but in terms of consistency. I have been very frustrated with my performances over 18 holes this last few months – given all the work I’ve been doing at home and at the range. Before I went out today I watched one of your tips on what to concentrate on when you’re playing. I wrote a little note to myself saying: Coil with shoulders and then just 50% _ which I looked at several times during the round. Paul, I’ve never hit the ball straighter or farther with so little effort. I said to myself during the round: So this is what Paul is talking about! This is it! Powerless arms! Of course I hit 2 or 3 loose shots which cost me score wise, but overall I was thrilled. Even my partners were asking if I’d been taking lessons! I suppose I’ve had too many thoughts in my head when I’ve been out playing from all the tips. Thinking about too many aspects of the swing when trying to play. But 50% really sealed it for me today. So, basically Paul, I just want to say THANKS.

By the way, the dashboard is brilliant because it makes it so easy to find the tips to be working on. Thanks again for your dedication and enthusiasm to helping us ordinary guys and girls find a simple but effective way to make progress in this often frustrating game. Be well.
    Regards, Philip

      Philip,

Very good. I love hearing things like this. Thanks for the kind words. I truly appreciate it.

Those are great thoughts on the course. I wish more people would swing at 50%. Everyone wants to do new moves on the course at top speed. Probably not going to happen as they have done the old moves for so long. If you go slow you can actually do the new moves instead of the old plus you will hit a ton more fairways which makes you consistent.

Yet another person who is getting people to notice there new swing. I keep saying that my students get asked about there swing by people if they hit my positions. This is even more proof. Hope everyone is reading this. It’s a great feeling when people take notice. No one says these things to someone with a bad looking golf swing.

Keep up the good work. More good things to come for you in the future.

    Paul,

When you coil and your arms continue to rise to the top of your swing, is that a result of your continued shoulder turn or do the arms continue to rise independently of the completed shoulder turn.

Noted the comment above of playing at 50% power. I had the same result. Played terribly for two days on vacation, and told myself do what Paul tells us because what I am doing is not working. Same result- long shots, better control, and better score.

Hi Paul is there a problem when doing this head cover drill under the arm, in practicing keeping it under the arm for the whole swing even up to the finish, feels a bit restricting but the finish but at least I know I stayed connected.

      Barry,

no problem. This is what I was doing. Just realize it may be a little restrictive into the follow through. When you don’t have the headcover in you will feel less restrictive.

  5. Hi Paul,

I’m wondering if this drill is useful for the lead arm kind of collapsing across the chest in the backswing. I feel like my lead arm is often against my chest (and sort of wrapped up). I might have developed this trying to stay connected or perhaps I am just not getting my shoulders coiled enough?

    Thanks,

    Craig

    • Craig,

This is going to keep you connected for sure. You can over do it though. The lead arms should ride up the left pec muscle from 3/4 back to the top. There is a slight raising to get this arm above the shoulder line but there is still a little pressure under the armpit. So take it back to 3/4 connected then manually lift the arms up to set the top. After you do this for a while you will go there without thinking about lifting.
