  1. Paul what the distance to carry the water on that tee shot? That is one of the first question I would need to have an answer to before I selected my club and my target.

    • Peter,

What water? Only think of the trouble if you are in it!

Probably 160-180 yards. It is not in play.

Off point Question,Do you have an opinion on the “Split grip(practice swings)Drill?

Actually Paul I was talking about a smaller split grip(bottom hand just on the metal shaft off the grip)ti create more extension of the arms as well as better wristcock in backswing and stopping from going too inside on backswing)This would be practice swings only

  5. I wish that I had found your instruction a few years ago before I played Bears Best. I still remember that intimidating first hole and the triple bogey that kicked off a terrible round. You are absolutely right that you need to know your strengths and resist the urge to make a shot you are not used to on the first tee box. It really does set the tone for the round. Thanks for the tip and hopefully I will not make the same mistake next time I’m faced with a troublesome first shot.

    • Brad,

Glad you liked it. That first hole is tricky. You need to hit it right. Anything left will most likely be in the water. Maybe it is chickening out a little but why start off with a high number. Kills the hole round as you know. Please it safe and get into the round.
