Very instructive And clearly demonstrated shot in this video.
You don’t say which Iron You’re hitting :it seems it is a “long Iron” as you position the ball further forwards from the middle OF the stance ( With 7 Iron ,the ball, for me ,is in the middle OF the stance )
With short irons ,I put more Weight on the front foot to délivrer a descending ” blow ” .
Also ,you keep the head focused on the spot the ball was lying :I see many Pro’s letting the head Turn forward ( DAVID DUVAL,ANNIKA SOTENSTAM ) they do not keep the head back ,it follows the swing .
M’y thought to keep the head back is that when I swing down ,the head must not crash in a Window pane just in front OF me .Also keep the distance between the head And the target constant .

      Raymond,

      It’s a 7 iron.

Ball position back is camera angle.

You don’t need your weight anything other than 50-50 with all clubs.

      Jeff,

We just overseeded that tee deck. I purposely did not take a divot to save the grass.

Poor Jim…late casting and now incorrect head position at impact and address…this guy deserves some kudos for being the “guinea pig”…I am sure he was compensated for being Paul’s “whipping boy”!?

      Ken,

Keep in mind this is the swing he came to me with. He looked nothing like that after we worked on it.

Paul your previous tip on staying behind the ball to eliminate coming over the top was best ever.
Now your head staying behind in this tip builds this even more.

That said moving the head back 3-5″ on back swing also insures loading up. I find that my issues coming over the top and topping stem from not staying behind the ball with my head/ torso. Is part of this NOT taking the time to fully insure one is loading up prior to downswing?

I struggle with this and even moving my head up on back swing. Letting the head move back vs keeping it solid can it bring in elevation issues?
    Thanks.

      Richard,

Loading is vital because if you are not loaded how are you going to fire the lower ahead of the upper? All of the things are vital. Move the head, coil, load, stable lower body to put you in position to go the other way.

You will stand up due to avoid the tightness of the coil. You have to see your body as a spring. It coils. A spring would get tight as you coiled it so should your body. You will not like it so you will avoid it. I know to coil and I know it will be tight. So I want this tightness. Average players will avoid it. This is what gives me the simple look to the backswing.

So coil up nightly in a mirror. Keep the lower body stable as you coil only the shoulders back. The shoulders will pull the hips and knees into position. Feel the loading as you coil.

Also do this drill as much as possible.

Hi Paul, I notice that in the down swing your eye level goes down lower than at your address position. You alway stress the importance of moving back, but never mention moving down with the down swing. Have you any tips on how to practice this? Kind regards Ian Henry.
