    Hi Paul,
Thanks for every thing you have taught me so far.
What’s the end point for seniors who can’t turn that far?

      Eriab,

It is very rare when I get someone how cannot get to this position. If you absolutely cannot do it then touch your neck with the club and try to go as far around as you can with the back leg. Remember, I want you to get to this position so you can do the same position every time. If you are not touching you cannot feel if you are doing it right or not so you will do a different swing. I want the exact same ending point over and over again.

So try to hit the position. If you are tight you will loosen up as you keep working on it. If you absolutely cannot do it then go around as far as you can but find your ending point. Think loose. The looser you are the more around you will be able to go. If you are locked up it will not happen.

You have given me private lessons and I certainly understand how you would like our swing to finish. After watching many golf tournaments on TV, however, most of the golfers do not do that with shorter irons. Is there something to that? Chuck

      Charles,

Sometimes you are seeing these guys hit knock down shots etc. which would chop off the follow through. If they are doing a full swing when they are not purposely trying to hold it off they will go to this position. So do the position.

  3. Paul,
Where do we go to see your responses to the questions. The two above are exactly what I am thinking.
Pro swing and finish at about left shoulder high.
For us seniors the move that you want can be done but not in a fluid move and, perhaps, not done all the time when we are playing.
    Please comment.

      Patrick,

When I answer a question you should get an email that I responded. Check your spam folder.

No pros do not swing at shoulder high when doing a full swing. They go to this position. If they are purposely trying to hold it off then the stop short. This is a specialty shot. I am not talking about this shot. I am talking about a full swing. Please do the position.

You can do the position. Being a senior is no excuse. Focus on setting the position and work on it nightly. If you are tight you need to loosen up and work on it. It will come through constant repetition. You can do it if you try.

  4. Golf is a trivial matter compared to the recent tragedy in Las Vegas where 59 people lost their precious lives at the hands of a madman. My thoughts, prayers, condolences and best wishes go out to you and all the people you work with at Bear’s Best and all of the good people in Las Vegas. Stay safe and keep doing what you are doing. Golf is one place where we can maintain our sanity and peace of mind – even when we make double bogeys.

Good tip as the end justifies the means. This means you swung correctly.

I noticed all good golfers the back shoulder is as far forward as possible. This is shown in your swing at the end of the frame.

Also the weight is on the front instep of ankle.

    Thanks 🙂 MHB

      Michael,

I have some pros in tonight’s tip. They are doing the positions. This is what I want everyone to do. Just imagine …

Good tips for the full swing finish however what about a 1/2 or 3/4 swing?? Where do you finish on these swings? Curious??

Hi Paul. Thanks for this tip. If you achieve the exact follow through position at the end of the swing does this mean that you have achieved the correct amount of lag in your downswing? In other words is lag automatic if you get the finish positions correct
    Many thanks

      David,

Hitting my follow through position definitely helps develop lag because you have to be loose to do the follow through and you have to re-hinge the club in the wrists. If your arms/wrists tighten or you are hitting solely with your arms you will not create lag or get the follow through. Does it make it perfect? Not necessarily because I rarely seen people do the follow through perfectly when they come for lessons. It takes me a while to get them to do the follow through and very few are ever as loose as I want them to be. So I am not even really thinking lag at this point. I am totally focused on them getting the follow through. As get the follow through they hit the ball amazingly well.

Once the person gets the follow through I am usually just touching up the backswing because you start to recognize it is easier to get the follow through if you are in a good backswing position. In other words working on the follow through fixes the backswing. If you are way out of position in the backswing it is harder, if not impossible, to get to the follow through. If you have a great grip and setup, backswing and follow through you have a great swing. A great swing has lag.

I will start looking for and taking note of lag increase as they get the follow through. Be good to see the difference in a comparison video.
