Greetings Coach I noticed on a tip/not sure the one/but i think it had to do with the chicken wing and the finish/ your left arm was about 90 degrees at finish/my left arm is a little less than that/not much but just a little and not always/as of last season my shots were straight and distance good for the most part/i feel like my arms are fully extended as the down swing starts up /the club finishes between the ears and i am on the toe/should i be concerned?

      John,

      Here is the tip:

      World’s Biggest Chicken Wing: https://ignitiongolf.com/biggest-chicken-wing/

You need to do the positions perfectly. If you are not at 90 degrees there is tension there. If a hinge in real life hinged to 90degrees going back it would re-hinge to 90 in the through swing. You wrists are not wrists. They are a hinge so they need to work like a hinge would work. Keep at it. Sounds like you are getting close.

Paul, I noticed in a tip last year that the back leg was your trigger. That would automatically get that back foot off the ground.

      Kenneth,

The turning should be pulling your heel off the ground. Unfortunately, most people are hitting. If you are hitting, you are not turning. Make sure your heel is coming off the ground at impact. If you have to manually lift it then do so.

Hi Paul on s separate note all together can you please do a tip on how hard i should be gripping the club with my hands at impact please as I’ve searched the site and couldn’t find any reference to this. Thanks paul

  4. A KEY movement for a powerful and speedy swing:I don’t say ” LIFT ” to myself ,I say ” PUSH “.When you “PUSH ” ,you can’t stay on YOUR back foot .The best training I know to adopt this move is to find a sllight upward slope ,such as the side of a TEE box ,and swing against the slope ,upwards .It’ astonishing to see the speed it gives to YOUR club when you do this energetically.

    Hi Paul

This is the next step in my golf development. I can swing quite nicely seemingly without lifting the heel before impact but doing so should add more power and hopefully even more consistency.

I have a opposed palm type weak grip and trying to change to a two knuckle grip as you suggest. My swing is trying to adjust and suffering as a result. Can you tell me bit more about the wrist rotations during the swing? My wrists rotate anticlockwise during the backswing and seemingly clockwise during the hip shift phase of the downswing and then clockwise wrist release through impact.

      Paul,

I hope you are not purposely rotating your wrists going back. If so you will fan it open which would lead to the face being open at the op. From address I am turning my shoulders. In doing so my arms are moving back. Watch:

      Halfway Back: https://ignitiongolf.com/halfway-back/

From here you lift the club up into position allowing the wrists to fully hinge. Watch:

3 Ways to Set The Top of the Backswing: https://ignitiongolf.com/backswing-top-3-ways

From the top if you did absolutely nothing with your arms the club would rehinge perfectly on its own. This is because the mass (club) with stretch out fully to the release point after impact and it would do this 100% of the time. You already predetermined that when your arms are stretched out the face is square. You did this at address. Now all you have to do is let your arms stretch out again. If so the face would have to be dead square because you predetermined that when your arms are stretched out the face is square. From there if your wrists are loose the club would re-hinge in the through swing 100% of the time because a hinge in life would hinge and rehinge 100% of the time if it was loose.

I get the feeling you are over-analyzing this. If you cannot square the club manually roll it over with my roll over drill. This will loosen the wrists. Then switch the focus to the lower body to straighten it out. Strengthening your grip a little to a neutral position should be a great feeling and make it easier to square it instead of having a weak grip. If you have a weak grip you have to roll it over more than necessary because the face is open.
