    Hi Paul,

This is a very helpful tip for me. But, how do I add it my To Do list?

    Thanks,

    Bill

Thanks for this Paul. A while ago you told me that you do not recommend holding your shoulders back to allow the legs to come through first. I guess this is just a drill to get the idea. When I am hitting my best shots it feels that when I straighten my left leg on the downswing that I am almost pulling my arms through to the target with no conscious hit. Is this OK
    All the best

      David,

Yes you are not hitting or helping the shot with your arms. They should be powerless.

  3. Excellent reminder ,Paul:I do this drill each time I am waiting for my turn to come on the tee box.
You showed us in a previous similar video that there were two ways of practicing this drill .
Faster and faster each time …

  4. Paul ,There are some simple physical exercises to be done to enhance hip turn turning from side to side .Maybe JEREMY KLINKHAMER could also show them again as a reminder .Both the technical side and the physical side must improve together to have a better and more efficient golf swing

  5. Paul ,I don’t remember you’ve covered the “ANGLE OF ATTACK “subject in your previous videos,as regards the driver .
Could you comment on the positive and negative angles of attack ,the effect they have on carry and distance ,how to tee the ball in both cases (Higher/lower ),the pro’s /con’s of the two ways .
As for myself ,I try to hit the ball with that part of the clubface which is just above the geometrical center of the clubface ,where it is said that modern drivers have their sweetspot but I remain “classic “and I keep the equator of the ball level just above the top of the clubface ,not higher.

      Raymond,

That is a good place to hit the ball. This is why you want half of the equator about the crown.

Flat swing – tee the ball higher because it bottoms our further behind the ball and is on its way up as it hits the ball. I don’t like this because this golfer typically is a slider. A slider cannot tee the ball lower or normal. If so, they hit the bottom groove because the club is swinging to much up at the ball. How they lower the flight is with a strong grip and turning it over through impact. Problem is: tighten up and you push or push fade it. Wrists too loose and you snap hook it.

Normal Swing – Tee it with the equator above the crown. This creates level, slightly up or slightly down angle of attack. I like this because you will hit the ball on the right launch angle giving you maximum distance and roll.

  6. Paul,

One of the most useful of your tips. Without seeing your complete video series it is possible to misinterpret your technique into thinking it is all shoulders in the back swing and hips/legs in the down swing and forgetting the importance of using the shoulder nuscles to maintain the lag angle until the club is released just before impact.

      Peter,

Most people have had a lifeltime of hitting. Most pros started as kids with no arms strength so they have ha a lifetime of using the legs and hips. My goal is to get people who learned as adults to use their legs and hips not the hands and arms. You would think this would be easy. Unfortunately, human nature is powerful and wants you to hit the ball. So doing drills like this one gets you at least working on it and trying to feel it. Glad you liked it.

This worked for me today. I have been playing for about 4 1/2 years. I think I counted 18 different systems Started with Peak Performance Swing which guarantees a Slice and no distance and ended with Jim Venetos stationary left-sided swing. I got consistency in the latter awkward technique, but zero distance.

I tried yours on the range yesterday and noticed the irons going a little longer but nearly ruined my new driver. Then after some thought I realized that I really am always trying to kill the ball all the time even when I think I’m not using my arms.

Went out this morning and did the hold and turn drill on each tee-box and did your up-in-the-air drill and focused on rolling hands without using shoulders and started turning.

PAUL I HAVE NEVER HIT SO MANY JACK NICKLAUS TYPE DRIVES IN MY LIFE!!!! Driver, 3-Wood, 5-Wood – THEY WERE ALL BEAUTIFUL SHOTS. Now I just to focus a little more on the fairway shots and we will be very close to where I need to be.

    THANKS SO MUCH

      Allen,

Glad you are improving. I love hearing stories like yours.

If so many people are struggling with the swing yet so few people who can play good golf they have to be doing it a different way. This different way is by using the legs and hips not the hands and arms. The problem is, there is a ball sitting in front of you. Human nature is telling you to hit it and hit it hard. Until you go against human nature you will never get it because you will always being doing the opposite to what a better player is doing.

Now you are feeling your legs and hips and how easy it is to hit the ball great you need to stay focused on this and NEVER try to hit the ball with the arms ever again. It is very exciting once you get it so you need to watch this tip:

      You Will Top It: https://ignitiongolf.com/you-will-top-it/

      Also watch this:

Stop Topping Your Fairway Woods: https://ignitiongolf.com/stop-topping-fairway-woods/

Next time out start out slow and build it up. Do the drill off the ground. This will allow you to feel the legs and hips because there is no ball to hit. Keep getting used to this feeling and keep trying to master each swing position I teach. As I keep telling everyone, it is about the movement not the ball.

I hope you are using the new dashboard. Learn how to use it here:

I seem to be fine with all the woods. It’s my irons that are leaking right.

  9. I like the idea to «delay» the upper body turn. I keep my back to the target for longer, it makes everything «tight» and I stop spinning my shoulders open too soon. It also helps me come from the inside more and stay behind the ball a lot better.
