          David,

I like the M-1. Just a totally different sound and feel so I need to get used to it. I definitely goes farther than my Rocketballz. I love the look of it too.

Ping G30 is a great driver too. Don’t think you can go wrong. The clubs are important but the swing is more important.

    Paul,

What about clubhead weight, is that something that adjusts as you adjust the shaft stiffness/kickpoint?

    Thanks,
    Kim

      Lim,

I’m sure it does. This too would be something to ask a professional clubfitter.

GREETINGS COACH would doing favorite drill in slow motion be useful? Because of ceiling height I can’t do regular tempo swing. Would it help in doing all the positions?

Great that you raise the issue of fitting. My experience was going to a store which simply using the fitting session to sell me a new set of clubs. The fitting session was inside the store, hitting into a “wall” of fabric, which does not replicate outdoor, open space, target oriented swinging. What I would like is someone to whom I would come with my clubs, in a driving range, who would earn their living on their genuine fitting service they give, rather than commissions of club sales, which defeats the experience. How do you find someone like this?

      David,

Yes, I don’t like the indoor fitting. You need to go outside with a trackman or similar system.

You just need to do a search or call up a few golf courses in your area and ask the pro who in your area has a trackman. They will know.

Paul ,Interesting lesson ,but I must say I’m a “DOUBTING THOMAS “as far as club fitting is concerned.
I always played with “off the shelf clubs ” ,of coorse after testing them on the golf course .
Then I went to a Professional Club Fitter a long time ago ,he had a TRACKMAN and a SAMLAB for putting .
It didn’t me much good .
So I came back to my usual way of testing ,all by myself .
Since I follow your teaching ,my swing has improved and it’s faster .
    I took over to the KRANK GOLF clubs with forged heads ;
I had a KRANK FORMULA 5 Driver ,then I bought the new FORMULA 6 driver and the 3 and 5 Fairway woods .
They work fine for me ,they definitely give more roll to the ball, and I shoot straight with them ,but they ought not to be “brutalized “,they must be swung with your” POWERFUL ARLMS” technique, not with the arms .
I have the 16° Hybrid (IRON No 2), it’s very powerful off the tee and ideal to shoot Under overhanging tree limbs .
    I didn’t need a clubfitter ,I did it all by myself .
    It does work.

      Raymond,

You can doubt all you want but I tried everything to get my spin rate down. Once I had a fitting with Bronson I found the right shaft for my swing and had it around 2400 rpm instead of over 4000. This got me roll for the first time in my life and over 300 regularly.

Testing on the course is a great option too. A lot of people will not put in the effort though. Most fitters with a trackman will have a ton of clubs and shafts to try so you get a wider range of possible clubs for your swing.

Hi Paul, sorry to press you, but do you have your school dates for next year 2016. It is just that if I come from England I need to book flights and holidays well in advance, many thanks and kind regards Ian Henry.

Thanks. I will submit the dates shortly. Once I have them I will let everyone know.

Was not sure where to ask this question, but I figured ‘Equipment’ was a good place to start. Let’s talk about shoes. There may a tip that addresses this, but I have not seen one. I noticed in your videos that you are not wearing spikes (or at least I could not really see them). Do you wear spikes when you play? I have really adopted your method and cannot wait until spring. Before I invest in new shoes, I have spike-less golf shoes, what are you thoughts on proper shoes? Thanks so much – Matt

  8. I have a Callaway XR driver and the standard shaft is pretty long from what I read (45,75″). What shaft length do you game? Feels like this shaft is too long and I Guess I can benefit from cutting it a bit, making it easier to hit the middle of the Club face more often. Whats your point on shaft length?

    • Stian,

Yes, that seems too long. Mine is 44″ with driver. You should go to a clubfitter to determine the correct length for your swing speed. Drivers that are too long can actually lose you distance.

      • Thanks. I know a guy at my local club, I can try a few different shaft length before I decide to cut the one I have. Its not a proffesional fitting but at least I can try a few and see if my consitency and strike is getting better.
You think the manufacturers make the standard length shafts longer to try improve on distance?

        • Stian,

Exactly. Always good to try different shafts etc. You are getting better so this will be really important.

I bought my first complete set, Callaway great big Bertha driver and XR OS irons w/graphite shafts (I was 62 yo), about three years ago. I did not get them fitted but did my best to try and find the clubs that felt right at various local stores. Now that my game is improving, the only outdoor fitter I have run across is Titleist. Are there outdoor fitters available to allow me to test a variety of clubs or should I do my homework ahead of time and narrow it down to just one or two clubs to test and wait for those fitters to come around ? I live in Northern California. Many thanks by the way. Your lessons online have really helped me. Jon

      Johnathan,

If you are of standard height those clubs should be okay as you work on the swing. Once you get the swing then it is wise to get professionally fitted. These are the best guys I know and they have locations in Cali: https://theclubfix.com/

If you cannot get to them then find another that is closer. Just do a search clubfitter and your zip code and see what comes up. Otherwise just ask the guys in the proshop at any golf course. They will know the best guy in your area.

Glad you like the lessons. I appreciate the feedback.

Paul, when is the best time to get fitted for clubs. As we take lessons our swing changes little by little. Should we be fitted again as our swing gets better. (Love these lessons)

Good morning Paul, last fall you mentioned that you did a commercial for a new driver that you were really impressed with. Do you have any additional information that you can share on it yet?

  12. Paul,

Great tip. I believe I am correct that I want to feel like I’ve got your swing down really pat before I try to get fitted for a driver. The swing being more important than the club.

Also, I had been wondering about grip size. Glad you touched on that subject here. I feel like a larger grip makes me more hand (and wrist) conscious. I will stick with standard size grips with no wraps added.

    Thanks.

      Mike,

Thanks. Yes, I would get the swing first. I think you are close so once you feel you are consistently doing it then try some. Larger the grip slower the hand action. I use standard Tour Wraps with 2 wraps of tape.
