Thank you, but the shot wasn’t really over water. The water was on the right and not in play. How about a tee shot on a par three with the water totally in play?

    • I don’t think your approach mentally and swing wise would be any different. You are dealing with trouble in the same manner by thinking and hitting to the target.

        Jeffrey,

Exactly. I think the same way (target) on every shot. Few people think this way. They are thinking “I hope I get it over the water.” This is why I did the tip.

      George,

That is the only shot we have with water. The pin was behind the water from my angle. I played it from there for that very reason. Same things apply if you have to go over a full body of water.

Hi Paul, pls help me out on our Par 3, 130m, directly over water, straight towards the green. Should I tee the ball higher than usual? I use my driver and often hit the ball into the water which unnerves me! However, often it will go over and land either to the right or in the middle. I don’t have a long drive. Any help please? Cheers MJ

      MJ,

You are commenting on the tip I talk about hitting over trouble. You are thinking of the water. I need you to not think about the water. You don’t need to tee it higher. You need to do your real golf swing. Right now you are looking to see if you clear the water so you top it into the water or don’t make great contact.

So before you hit this shot again you need to be thinking of where you want to hit it. You then need to do practice swings feeling the arms relax. You keep this feeling as you step up to the ball and apply it to the shot. If your arms are relaxed you are not trying to hit anything. If you are not trying to hit anything why would you look early?

Remember, the harder you hit the more you will look to see what you hit.
