    Paul,

What was cool in this video was the sound of the driver in the three different swings. I could hear the difference even though it looks the same. And still always going back to the basics on the swing positions, favorite drill and touch the legs to drive he the new habit. Now having been a student for about 8 months, they are pretty well the norm, but those are the go to items any time I start to ‘stray’.

Just watched highlights of the long drive championships this past week and is clear they hit with their body. Very fun to watch too. Is the ‘opposite’ of normal match as the crowd does not go quiet during the player’s swing. :p

      Kim,

Exactly how can those guys generate that much power with just the arms. No way.

    Paul,

After about 6 months of following your technique, I finally feel that I am getting the hitting with the legs sensation. I am also consistently hitting the follow through positions. For me I did have to use a slightly different downswing trigger, I am thinking of rotating my right knee into my left knee. This helps me to turn, rather than slide. I also have a feeling that my arms are lagging the rest of my body, so my key thought is lagging arms rather than powerless arms, although it is actually the same thing.

      Bill,

Good stuff. Glad you are getting it. Trigger it how you like so long as you end up with the legs perfectly touching like I am doing. You should be seeing some great shots now.

    Hi Paul

Your technique has helped me gain distance and consistency and, indeed, it’s an unmistakable feeling when you hit “with your legs, and hips”. In fact, it’s a beautiful feeling!

However, a bad side effect is what happens to me in the green side bunker now. because of that movement, I THINK, I hit a lot go ball, fish, instead of the sand behind. Aiming 2-3″ behind the ball when you use your legs and hips has been useless, it slows me down and I lose the rhythm. Staying with the weight on the back foot is counter to using the legs and hips. So what am I to do?

    Thanks Paul

      David,

Bunker shots are simple. Have you not seen my bunker technique? Go to Dashboard > Short Game > Bunkers. Basically you can do your normal golf swing. You dig down so you are lower than the ball. If so, this means you will take sand. If you are not taking enough sand you are lifting up (trying to see this amazing shot you think you’re going to hit) or buckling your arms through impact. This pulls the club off the ground.

So basically you are doing your normal golf swing. Because you are lower than the the ball you will take sand. In your description you are saying you are trying to hit 2-3″ behind the ball which is not what I teach. You should not be trying to hit anything. The sand is taken because you are lower than the ball. Your focus is on doing your normal golf swing through to the follow through knowing full well the sand will be taken.

    Hi Paul,

The last two weeks I lost my golf swing? I was shooting mid 70s to low 80s no matter where I played then lost it? It seems I started swinging arms and upper body only. I played yesterday after watch your free video on alignment and getting legs into the swing. After 12 holes I finally started to get my legs into the swing and finished the last 6 holes hitting every green in regulation.
I purchased your program on line today. You made a believer in me. My driver and longer club seem to be easier to control? My shot irons used to spot on and seem to be giving me the most trouble?

    Thanks,
    Walt

      Walt,

Losing your swing happens to everyone. We all want more and more. If you do not know how to use your body you will try to hit harder with your arms. Glad you now see that you do not hit the ball with your arms. They are connected to your body and will move when you coil and uncoil. Everything should be easier to control because you are not hitting. Not hitting allows the mass (club) to swing freely without manipulating it. You only have a few degrees for error. If you are trying to hit, you are moving the clubface around which leads to inconsistencies. Stay focused on my technique. Make sure you learn how to use the dashboard. On the first slide FULL SWING there are 8 lessons I teach to everyone. I would start with those then supplement with other tips. If you don’t know I teach the follow through first. Learn this and you will hit the ball amazingly well as you cannot do my follow through if you are out of position at impact. To me the follow through is the most important position in the swing. You’ll see.

    Paul,

I’m having a hard time getting my arms out of my swing? For my age I’m very strong and have a hard time not swinging hard? At one time ( 2007 ) I carried a 6.4 index. To date I’m a 10/1. Earlier in the year 9.5. I play 4 times a week and practice every day. Earlier this year I was playing mid 70s to low 80s for a month? then I started swinging hard with my arms? I have a radar and at times get my swing speed to where I want it , but cant keep it? I have been working inside with 8 ft ceilings, could this be hurting my swing? I think from when I was swing better I was swinging the club thinking of using my back muscles holding on and swing shoulder to shoulder with loose arms and wrist?
Does this make any sense to keep trying to do this to find the feel of swing the club head without using just arms?

If I come out to you what would the cost be to play a round with you?

    Thanks,
    Walt

P.S. I had your videos on H,D. that’s why they were skipping.

      Walt,

I have heard this a million times. For me it took 3 practice swings. As I did these swings I told myself to not hit the ball with my arms. I allows my body to move my arms. the average player just wants to keep whacking away and looking for great shots. This does not and will not work.

If you were a 6.4 you were close. You had to be using your legs and a little arms too. Getting it back should not be a big deal. You need to check your positions. As I said, work on my follow through first.

Anyone can do practice swings at home and think they have a great swing. Put a ball in front of them and they look terrible. This is because they are trying to hit the object sitting in front of them. My practice swings are different. I give you precise positions that give you feedback so you know you are doing them exactly right. So as you do the swing you will hit the backswing positions then know exactly where to swing through to. If so you will repeat exactly the same swing every shot, every day, forever. So you need to learn my positions. Work only on them and FORGET impact. If so, you will get it back in no time.

If you do swings inside just grip down and hold the club off of the ground the amount you gripped down. I swing like this all the time. Plus, I have a short training club.

You should be coiling into the backswing with the shoulders and uncoil in the downswing with the legs. Forget the shoulders in the downswing.

      Uncoil 1: https://ignitiongolf.com/uncoil
      Uncoil 2: https://ignitiongolf.com/uncoil-follow-up

You can’t keep the speed because you are hitting with your arms. The harder you hit, the tighter your wrists, the slower the clubs swings. Once you take the arms out and see your wrists as a hinge they will whip fast.

Like I said, just stick to my stuff and you will get it back in no time.

  7. Hi Paul,

I have been practicing the relaxed arm/lose wrists to generate power in my swing. It definitely works! However, one side effect on my drives is that I often push the ball and an occasional slice. Its essentially inconsistency. Maybe hitting straight drives 50% of the time. Before using this method, I had more of draw or pull in my swing. Now, with loose arms, I don’t square up my club in time. Is the correction just a matter of getting my hips turning more?
    Thanks,
