    Hi Paul,
For some reason since I have been trying to stay behind the ball, I am having trouble getting off my right foot and hitting a lot of fat shots. Should lore leg drills help that?
    Thanks, Mike

Great video, I’ve just written a checklist down on paper of the things you’ve said to remind me at all times. Just a quick question and sorry if you’ve already answered this but I’ve been thru quite a few of your videos now. I’m still having trouble of what I should be feeling on my right leg when I go to the top of the back swing , I know it has to feel loaded but should I do it to the point where I can almost balance on one leg , my right leg, like that sitting feeling, slight pressure on the groin? Hi Paul,
Thanks for the useful tip on practice .

in my practice swings, I can do a full backswing with a full wrist hinge. But when I do the actual swing, my backswing is well short , with my left arm just above horizontal and with a half wrist cock. Am losing a lot of power as a result of this. Have seen the overswing drill video plus the wrist hinge videos. I think it is a mental thing, ie, there is a subconscious fear if my backswing is too long or takes too long to complete ,my lower body will out race my upper body hence causing my shot to leak right. And this does happens. I have tried to counteract this concern by manually releasing turning my hands at impact. Seems to work as a temporary fix but I then become too handsy and arms focused.

In my practice swing, i can finish with the club shaft touching back of my head. But in my actual swing, I don’t do it consistently enough. . Probably because too many swing thoughts going on in my head at the same time – left shoulder under chin, full wrist cock, touch knees, touch head. Since touching head is last of these swing thoughts of mind, maybe that’s why I forget to do it. Am thinking of reducing to just 2 swing thoughts – full wrist cock on the backswing and touch knees on the downswing. My single handicapper friend says I shouldn’t be having ANY swing thoughts in the actual swing at all , ie. i should only focus only on the target and to TRUST my swing. Is he correct?

    Thanks for your advice.. David

      David,

If you are shortening up when you swing in reality you are trying to hit the ball with your arms. I guarantee your backswing is way too fast when you do your real swing so you have to slow down. This will give you a lot longer time to feel where the club is up there. It also has to be total commitment on your part. When working on this you have to forget your ball and hitting great shots. Your goal is to fix this. If you are thinking of this you are not necessarily thinking about your whole golf swing so you can’t every shot to be perfect. Also, this is something that is going to take at least a few weeks or constant work to fix.

Not sure if you saw this:

      Follow Through

You are thinking about the ball NOT the position. How tough is it to take the club and touch your head? No ball and you can do it every time. With the ball you stop short so that is telling you that you are not even thinking about the position when you are swinging. So you need to change the thought. Again, forget the ball and hitting great shots. This is not going to happen if you are working on positions.

Your friend is right only when you have worked on your positions. How you going to go out there with a golf swing that needs work and have no thoughts. This is never going to happen. If you do you will stick to a golf swing that is not working. You are also right in picking a couple of things and working only on them. There is no way you can be working on 5 things at once. I did this for over 10 years. You know where it got me? No where. So pick out one thing in the backswing (slow and longer) and master the follow through positions. Have you not heard me say the follow through is the most important position in the golf swing? The thing is you are not even working on it. Focus. Once you get these things move on to something else until you have a swing that you can do with no thoughts. Right now you need to think.

Oh yeah, when you go to play forget score. Forget hitting it as hard as you can. Slow easy swings at 50% of your ability not caring where your ball is going. If you do it this way you are going to hit some bad shots but you will be on your way to changing it. Don’t do it this way and you will never change.
