In this tip I explain how to coil your body in the backswing. This is essential in creating the necessary torque for a repeatable golf swing. Once you learn the backswing coil you couple this with the uncoil for a powerful consistent swing.

Also was wondering how wide my stance should be ?
i have very broad shoulders and long arms
i feel more solid with a wider stance but i also have trouble touching the legs doing this.

      David,

You can do it. You are just not seeing it yet. Do the helicopter drill with the club on your shoulders. Focus on stabilizing the lower body. Then turn only the club on your shoulders level to the ground. If you do your shoulders will pull the lower body into perfect position because the shoulders move the most at 90 degrees. You hips will move 45, knees 22.5 and feet 0. As you do this you will feel a stretch in your right shoulder blade. In 22 years and tens of thousands of students not one has never felt what I am referring to. Get coiling then uncoil with the legs. Just keep doing this until you are good at it. Then imaging you will tilt slightly to get to the ball. In doing so you still feel like the shoulders are doing this very same coiling action (even though they are on a tilt).

Even if you do not feel the torque just keep coiling this way until you understand how this action is the new power source to your swing. Your arms are just doing along for the ride.

We do have a service where we can look at your swing. If you are in doubt it would be worth the $50. It is totally up to you. You can find out more here:

Stay focused and do the drill until you are good at it.
