    Paul,

I love (and need) this tip. While it must seem almost too basic for you to discuss, it may well be crucial to me in my efforts to learn your swing.

    Thanks.

      Jim,

So many people need this tip. I find it mind boggling that people will not just try it. They keep wanting great shots with a swing that does not work. You are real close. We get those arms out of your swing and you will be able to play forever.

    Paul,
In all of your videos you bend your left elbow on the back swing a lot. When I watch the pros on the weekend they seem to keep the left arm relatively straight. I feel the most control of my swing when I keep the left arm straight. What’s the proper position ?
    Thanks,
    Gary

Hi Paul. This last week I had the opportunity to concentrate and practice the tips from my video lesson and viola! Using the radar swing speed device, I went from 86 MPH with the driver to a consistent 93 MPH. Relaxing the wrists, slowing down the backswing, and turning off the arms on the downswing immediately increased the swing speed, with no loss of balance. I have to admit there was no ball involved, so trying to hit something was not an issue. Once I reached 93 MPH, human nature took over and I tried swinging harder. The swing speed decreased to 89 to 92 MPH, proving more arm involvement is counter-productive. I’m 70 years old and need to lose about 35 or 40 pounds, With less tummy weight, more flexibility, and more time to practice power-less arms, 95 MPH or more is within reach. Then I’ll only have to work on long irons, chipping, wedges, putting……………………..

    Best Regards, Ron Calabrese

      Ron,

Very good. Now you are starting to see how tightening slows it down although it does feel powerful.

This should give you the incentive to keep loosening them up. Oh yeah, you don’t have to be strong to be loose. So you should be able to do this until you are 105 yrs old.

Hi Paul, yesterday I reached an astounding 96 MPH on the radar and I wasn’t in my car! I can’t wait for some reasonable Chicago weather.

        Thanks, Ron

          Ron,

See you can do it. If I can put nothing into it and get the club swinging into the 90’s anyone can do it. They just have to do it differently. I am loose not tight and locked up. Now, yo just have to keep doing this until you get used to it then apply it to your shots.

Very good, you are right to where we are. Trying hard to understand and do what you are teaching. Emotions are part of the game and in this video I could see a new approach to your “tips”. I am still struggling but now I will spend more time relaxing.

      Mike,

Just try it you’ll love it! Glad you are seeing it differently. You’ll get it.

It looks as though it’s finally going to be warm enough to practice regularly outdoors. This reinforcement could not have come at a better time! Thanks, Paul.

    Paul,

An excellence explanation the last two days on powerless arms. The difference between my best “hard” swing 87 and my slow down and relax powerless swing (when I can do it – tough to consistently master to date) is an increase to 94. Correcting for forty hard years will take time.

    Thanks.

      Matthew,

That great. It will take time but now that you know how to do it you are working on the right things. Now you have a chance.

Hi Paul..Really enjoyed this presentation. You seem to also. Your point ( in this lesson )is well taken.
Can’t wait to try it. And give it time to work. Thank you.

Paul, you continue to amaze! I’m using this in my warmups and find that when I do it correct, the ball comes off the middle of the club. If the arms start to come back into play, the ball moves further and further to the front of the face! I had a wonderful 10 holes with “powerless” arms and then for whatever reason, two stupid holes using my arms (saw where the ball hit forward on the face) and readjusted and finished the round with arms that felt powerless. Weird how it crept into my brain that the arms needed involvement? Anyhow, great tip, I use this in all my warmups and the whole process is starting to click. You’re a fantastic teacher.

      Bruce,

I keep trying to tell everyone. It’s like I have to convince people to do this yet everyone has felt a powerful, effortless shot with a feeling of nothing before. People should want to do this. As you found out it works and when you hit it doesn’t. So make sure you are telling yourself to swing way easier and power it with your legs and hips.

Now that you’ve seen it you just have to be there a few more times and you will do it forever.

Keep in mind human nature is telling you to hit harder so you need to be aware of it and stay focused. When you feel yourself lose it immediate hit the next shot at 50%. This will stop you hitting right away. Sure, the ball may fly a little less but you can stop the arms from creeping back in.

Good job! Glad you like my teaching.
