Fine reminder ,Paul ,of your previous motto”Touch your head ,Touch your legs ”
Why is it that some Pros ,mostly in previous Times – I’m thinking of Arnold PALMER in particular – had a high ,vertical finish ?

      Raymond,

Palmer was trying to fight a hook. The tighter your wrists the more the club go up and does not split the ears.

    Hi Paul,

Can I clarify for release action, do I roll over with only my left wrist or both wrists need to do the roll over

    • December 6, 2013

      Kelvin,

The hands are crossing over one another. You can do it with your right hand, left hand or both hands. However you do it do it that way and get used to it. Most people can just cross the right hand over the left coming. The odd person has trouble with it so I tell them to point their left thumb at the target. Find what works and keep doing it until you get rid of the slice spin. At that point you forget about rolling it and work on the body rotation to straighten it back out.

    Paul,

If the elbows are wide at finish, Is the only flaw tight wrist and is that the main cause of chicken wing.?

    • Mace,

Tight arms and wrists. You could be way too tilted with your elbows buckled at address. If you were set up like this there would be no way to clear an arc with your arms stretched out so you would have to chicken wing it.

Paul for some reason I tend to hit the ball and stop. My practice swing I can get the follow through positions but when I go to hit ball I stop rotating. What is causing this? Thanks

    • Jim,

This is human nature telling you to hit the ball. So do slow swings and not matter where the ball goes bring the club through and touch your head. You need to build a great swing if you want to play great golf. The longer it takes you to make these changes the longer it will take you to build a great swing.

So forget about the ball and work on the ending. Tee it up and convince yourself to touch your head splitting the ears when you are done and don’t forget to touch your legs too. Have you not seen my tips on doing practice swings at home. You should be working on these positions in practice swings every night until you don’ know any other way to swing.

Thanks Paul. I immediately worked on it today and I see what your are saying. I need to forget the ball and get my finish. It works!!! Thanks!!!

    • Jim,

Exactly. I try telling people this is the answer. Until they work on it they will never know. Keep at it. This will change you whole game.

Paul ,To acheive what you say ,touching THE back OF the head with the middle So OF the shaft in the finish position ,requires being completely loose OF the upper body ,in paricular the shoulders .If the external rotators OF YOUR shoulders are stiff ,or hurt ,you cannot get there .
Jeremy rightly insists in training the externat rotators :hé is right ,but many OF us ( I being part ) have problems with the externat rotators ,and hang on the club to ” brake ” it So we don’t get hurt .
The swing Speed is consequentially reduced .
ROGER FREDERICKS tells you to train with the left pinkie OF the handle .
I do So ,but I’m not comfortable with it .

An equipment question related to these recent tips. As a senior golfer my right wrist and right thumb have lost range of motion somewhat. Would thicker grips help this or maybe thinner ones? On the follow through my right wrist can’t flex to 90 degrees.

      Gerry,

You can go with wider grips. I would suggest mid-size. The thickest ones are too think. Keep in mind that the wider the grip the slower the hand action thus resulting in a loss of distance.

    Hi Paul
I was watching the QBE Shoot out yesterday and noticed that many players do not finish this way. A lot do but maybe the pros are doing more shape shots than the average player. I of course will do this follow through but this is what I see.

Was it just me as I had no volume on this video?

      Gerry,

Hover over the player controls. To the right you will see some bars. They should be blue not gray. If gray you turned off the volume.Click on the them and turn them back to blue.

  10. Paul,
My Hdcp now is 8 but today I played for first time in a week. I was not sore or anything but my golf swing was awful. It look like I was a 20 hdcp or higher.
I hit three drives 10 to 30 yards off the tee and hybrid clubs 75 yards popped up right and many shots went no where.
I thought about using my legs and waist but I kept smothering it. My arms and hands were late a lot but I tried not to use them at all. The last few hole I swung my hands with my legs and hips and hit it well. I don’t know what I was doing today but I know you don’t want me to use my arms and hands but my lower body thoughts were having issues. What do you think I was doing? I was not swinging that fast.

    • Don,

First time you played in a week but were you doing daily practice swings. You do not have to hit balls to learn my technique/. You need to be doing almost daily practice swings. If so, your swing will never fall apart and you don’t have to hit thousands of balls.

If your swing looked awful you weren’t doing the positions. How can it look awful if you are coiling and hinging then going through to my follow through? If so, you would look like a pro. So, you need to be doing the positions right and practicing them daily. This means at least 25 practice swings at home preferably in a mirror.

      Here they are:

      https://ignitiongolf.com/start-here/

This doesn’t take long. Just have to do them over and over until you don’t know any other way to do it.

  11. Paul,

I am certain that my wrists are loose and I feel like I am doing this correctly as I can feel the shaft hit the back of my head. However, in videos of my swing, the club finishes on a downward angle not parallel with my ears. It appears that my right elbow finishes out away from my body. When I pull my elbow in closer and get my upper right arm across my chest, the club straightens up nicely.

My intuition tells me this is no big deal but I know it is a big deal because you are telling us all so. I would following you into a burning building.

Do need to just keep doing mirror drills to get used to getting my right arm in closer to my body (like you do)?

    Thanks
    Mike

    • Mike,

You need to manually set it between your ears exactly parallel to your ears not touching the grip of the club but the metal shaft. Keep doing it and eventually it will go there on its own. Do it in a mirror. Force the elbows more together.

    Paul,

I’ve been doing your positions through practice swings for a couple of months and I am getting into this touch the head position consistently both in practice swings and real shots. However I notice that my ball still has a lot of slice spin on it, implying I’m not fully releasing the wrists. Is it possible that i’m re-hinging too late or doing some other manipulation to get the club into this position, without fully releasing the golf club?

    Thanks,
    Kurt

    Hi Paul,
I believe my lack of power is from my wrists being too tight. I rarely hit a draw except with a short iron, and even then most go off to the right some with a slight fade and some just straight out to the right. My farthest drive without getting help is about 220. I do think I am using powerless arms, a slow backswing and a coil and uncoiling of my body. My friend just took videos of me front and back, so how can I get them to you or Pete to analyze like he did once before?
    thanks,
    terr
