Just counted my “favorites.” I have reached 40. Thanks, Paul, for you insight on how to teach golf. By the time your reach my age you will be the next Jimmy Ballard!

      Jule,

      That’s great.

I followed Jimmy Ballard many years ago. I still have his stuff around here somewhere.

      John,

      Thanks for the update.

I’m so glad you got called Sand Bagger/Ringer. This is a good sign. It won’t last forever but enjoy it while you can.

Please keep up with it through the winter. This really is the best time to practice because there is no ball to hit. Keep making the positions perfect. Then you should start out next season playing great golf. Lots of practice swings.

The traveler is good for swinging indoors. I still swing mine all the time.

      Keep at it.

My problem is always getting to the outside of the left foot being right-handed golfer with the weight more on the heel and on the tip of my right toe usually I’m on the ball of the foot with too much weight. So my question is, what do you think about at the top of your backswing trying to mentally rolled the left side of your left foot doing this by pushing your left knee out an inch or so from the top of your backswing to initiate the weight shift. Any better thoughts or ideas on what I suggested?

      Bruce,

You need to work on turning better. The turn will get you to the outside of this foot. I get the feeling you are whacking at it with your arms. Could be a little or a lot but something is stopping you from turning. Just stand up. Hands on hips. Turn through it. If you do you will see the weight will go to the outside of this heel.

Make sure you do a tall setup. Then focus on turning as soon as you start down. The shift will occur if you end up on the very tip of the back toe. Give it a try and see what happens. Also, do tons of practice swings working on it at home. And make sure that if you are hitting balls working on this you are doing it slowly until you are good at it. Something like this many be tricky because you need to maintain balance. If you swing too fast you may fall out of balance. If so, you will never fix it.

Paul, if you taught nuclear physics like you teach golf, it would be very easy to understand. I’m a recreational golfer, but still totally enjoy your tips. You have demonstrated that golf is a very mental game. I’m getting up there in age and can’t practice like I’d like to, but a lot of those tips are imbedded in my mind when I go out and play. I’ve only been golfing for 15 yrs. This was my best year of golfing thanks to your fantastic tips.

      Kenneth,

Thanks for the feedback. I think people really need to understand this. If I didn’t get it for over 10 years while I was trying to get my swing back what chance does the average player have? Hopefully, I can allow more people to get it and end their frustration too. Just keep doing practice swings working on our positions. This is the best way to practice if you don’t have time or if you get tired. Just create god habits and keep repeating them.

If only I had found you long ago when I was a beginner, I’d probably be a scratch golfer or better by now. I’m in my 60s & thanks to you,I’m enjoying the game more than ever. Wish I had found golf before baseball, but that was my most natural sport.

      Michael,

I hear this all the time. I too wish I’d have known how the swing works when I was starting out. Instead, I think I got it at 32. Too old by then.

You do realize you use the same 3 elements when playing baseball right? Circular body rotation/hinging the bat in your wrists/spine tilt The difference is in golf the ball is stationary so you have to tell yourself to do these things. In baseball you will do it naturally. Go against human nature and do the opposite in golf. If you do you will be successful.
