Any drills to fix the flaw of hitting behind the ball? I do that more than anything.

    Paul:

Once you “have the principle” of looking at spot behind the ball…does the hit become ball-turf again….looks like your last hit in the tip is ball turf

      Dom,

Yes, you are doing a normal swing. You are not physically trying to hit the ground. If you did you would hit every shot fat. Get the feeling in practice swings the apply it to a real golf shot and see what happens.

Paul, thank you for this drill. I was told that to achieve the same thing I should try to hit the ball somewhere between 7-8 O’clock. It has been a good thing, especially when driving. Is this drill aimed to achieve the same thing?

      David,

Basically the same thing. Just feel like the ball is behind the ball you are trying to hit.

    Hi Paul,
I tee up the ball the way you recommend for a driver but I still touch the ground during impact. Is this normal?

Paul Does this drill encourage you to start with lower body or do we still have to concentrate on starting dowswing with lower body. Been doing alot of your starting downswing with lower body drills, which one of these is the most effective.

    Hi Paul,

I will try this at the range tomorrow, but when I do it I will be swinging inside out. I recall (I think) from a previous video you said that divots for a right handed golfer should be outside in. Is this different just because it is a drill and not intended to be my real swing? Thanks.

      Lee,

You are gently brushing the grass behind the ball. Yes, they will be insdie out because you are contacting the grass earlier in the arc. I do not way you hitting there as this would actually be behind the ball and the divot would be out to the right. It is to get the feeling of attacking from the inside.

Proper divots are slightly to the left. This is due to the club hitting the ball then moving on an arc. This is not and inside out divot. This is a real divot with the club attacking slightly from the inside. An outside in divot would be from an over the top swing and on about a 45 degree angle left.

    Hi Paul,
When i do that inverted (backward) C as i hit the ball, it seems to always go way right. Am i overdoing it? i realize it is what is required to get the club to follow an inside to out path, but it is way out there.
    thanks,
    ter

      Terry,

They may go right if you are working on it. This would be the path from the side with the face square to the path. If you have this ingrained you have 2 choices. You can turn more. This will reduce the backwards tilt and you will hit it dead straight. Or you can keep this path. Do the roll over drill to get it hooking. Then think of this path again. If so, you will have a draw on your hands. The choice is yours. Keep in mind you will have to practice every day to dial in the draw. I would try it though so you can see this shot in action.
