    Hello Paul. As usual a good tip, even one I can understand. As suspected I have not had much time to practice what you tried to teach me in my lessons and, as also expected, I find I have gaps in my memory and notes about some of the points you made. So hopefully more lessons next year.

    I came back to Sugar Land and my first few scores were higher than normal, although recently the ball striking is better and scoring has improved back to the upper 70s (generally). While I prided myself on my short game prowess, your short game tips (the chip/putt near the green) and nine shots with the three backswing positions with my sand wedge have started to be more comfortable.

    I greatly enjoyed the teaching and hoepfully will be able to work with you in the future. Please give my regards to Pete.

      David,

      Just try to find time to either practice or at least do practice swings at home working on the position. Being a better player it shouldn’t take you that long. Just let us know if you are in town again.

    Hi Paul
    Have been a member of your excellent website for over a year and I have noticed, in all the tips you do, before every shot you do a waggle or two or three. Does that also help loosening the wrists and arms? What is the purpose, technique and reason for a waggle? Should we all waggle or is a long pause over the ball (which I routinely do) a “death move” as one of my playing partners says? Could you do a tip on “the waggle”? Thanx. Mike

    G’day Paul,
    Thanks again for a great reminder. Yesterday, we played stroke, I made some fine drives, remembering to get to the top then rotate the hips, with powerless arms. Some errors occurred partly because of the wicked wind. Mostly a satisfying game considering the pin placements for club championships.

    Paul,

    Regarding powerless hands and arms, does this amount to hanging slack/limp. I have always felt disconnected with the upper arms from the shoulders when I do this. In other words the arms swing independently of the shoulders and unsatisfactory shots occur. When you speak of arms do you really mean relaxed forearms or the entire arm.

    I have taken a of lessons and I think I work harder than the average person on my game. After 25 years of lessons who would have thought that video lessons that teach you how to power your swing with your lower body would have taught me how to swing a club for the first time in my life. I’m not a great golfer but I have been as low as a 7 handicap which looking back on it is amazing given my lack of true knowledge of how to swing a golf club. I guess there is a lot to be said for persistence. But the point is why make a golf swing work when you can simplify your swing and gain consistency with minimal effort.

    I have some ways to go before I truly hone my swing and game but with the knowledge I have now based on all the videos I have watched and used to practice regularly whether on the range or at home I can honestly say I have significantly more confidence because I now understand what is happening and why. I realize that when I will be in a competitive match the pressure may get to me but it won’t be because I don’t understand what is happening which has been the case in the past.

    Paul, I have learned more in the last 6 months than I have learned in 25 years. Crazy… I’ve had good teachers but not a single one has ever focused on the true basics of how to swing a golf club by powering with the legs. Again… Crazy! Thank you for your help.

      Glad you found us and are making progress. I love hearing it. I just hope more and more people find out about it too. There are so many people who could benefit as well.

      Just keep focusing on each piece and make it perfect. To become a 7 hdcp is a great start with a little change and work you should be able to play even better.

    I can recall you giving instructions holding your club at # 7 out of ten and you can still have loose wrists am I mss understanding that instructions

  8. LOOSE wrists and POWERLESS ARMS implies that the entire body remains RELAXED and flexible during the swing .
    Trying to hit the ball a long way leads to the opposite result .

    Hi Paul, I went to the range after just watching 1 video and couldn’t believe the difference, I was hitting the ball lovely. BUT THEN… I started to study the video’s more and more and I’m not hitting the ball sweetly as the 1st time.
    I’m now turning correctly but I’m bringing the arms down with pressure and seem to be concentrating more on my arms.
    Should my arms just drop down but with 8 and 10 hand grip.
    I can’t believe I had it and have now totally lost it. Thanks.

    I am getting it about powerless arms. There was a mental tip a few days ago about feeling relaxed by the numbers. That tip and this one, really helped — particularly with my longer fairway clubs. Yesterday I hit a 6 iron that was so beautiful that it should be in the National Gallery of Art. I watched as it arched toward the green and dropped like a stone. The only problem was that it was 5 yards short. BUT, no big deal — I used the chipping technique to get within 5 feet of the hole and putted for par.

      Very good. Just keep in mind it is a different feeling. You need to get used to it. If you know this then you can tell it to yourself. If you keep doing the same thing you have always done you will not change anything. Sounds like you are close. Keep at it.

    what is a good drill for when u swing the club i get to the top and every now then i swing with my arms and it is not pertty

      It is not even a drill. It is understanding and the right thoughts and feelings. As soon as you are starting down you are thinking of not hitting anything. Most people are always trying to hit the ball as hard as the can so they do this with the arms. So keep telling yourself not to do this. This took me 3 practice swings to get it. I just said to myself do not hit the ball. If I turn my body my arm will come down.

      Also, feel the arm muscles. It’s a totally different feeling to keep the arm muscles turned of that to have them turned on.

      You also need to choose a trigger so you are thinking of that to start the swing. If you don’t have a trigger you will probably be thinking of hitting with your arms. So make sure you choose one.

      Then it is knowing where you are swing through to. You cannot do the touch the head position if your arms are all locked up. Just split the ears with the club in a fluid path.

  12. Please tell me what your mindset is when hitting the ball with powerless arms. Do you totally ignore what the arms are doing and just concentrate on the legs and hips and the arms just naturally fall down or do you still need to concentrate on what the arms are actually doing. Thanks.
