    Paul,

Could you discuss how wrist bowing and ulnar deviation work with your swing mechanics? All the great ball strikers use wrist bowing at the point of impact. I tried to slow down some of your video but the frames per sec would not allow me to get an accurate picture. Thanks.

Paul, Thanks. I get it now. By focusing on the point of impact I will lose the power attained by the release you discuss. From experience, I know that what you say is true. I began to think about this after viewing the lag training devise. The devise does break the swing into a disjointed segment and I find that when I do this I begin think to much about the sequence. I think I will focus more on the release point and just keep the wrists loose. In fact, what I have found is that when I stay loose and forget about my arms is when I hit the ball furthest using you methodology. The golf industry is full of garbage swing aids (I have many myself). Thanks again.

Paul, I would like to suggest that you look at the SNAG golf snapper. It is the only devise that I know of that actually gives feedback on what you are trying to teach (other than actually hitting a ball). If you do the release you describe with the devise, it has a loud snapping sound. See it at: http://youtu.be/XoGDLz_ybm8 and wrist drills at http://youtu.be/9kdoZBi1lf4 .
The snap tools are used in a game for kids, but it’s a great teaching aid as well. Thoughts?

        Doug,

I cannot see how this would ever fix your swing. I guarantee when someone swings this they will be doing so with their arms. Take it away and they will still be hitting at the ball. The UST ingrains the swing position this is why I recommend it. After you use it for a while and you go to hit balls you still feel like you are using it. This is why it is a great training aid.

      Doug,

There are a ton of training aids out there. I only promote ones that work. This one really is great to feel the lag, increase turn and stop over the top. Plus, you can just use it at home.

The release point is huge in the golf swing. So many people are working on forward shaft lean when really this occurs due to having the right fundamentals. Funny game. Just need to see it a little differently. I think you get it.

    Dear Paul ,
This question is not related directly to the lag and the release issues :what have you to say regarding the ” barstool ” position at the beginning of the downswing ! Is it a MUST to hit the ball further or is it just a gimmick ?As for myself ,I found out I Would gain 5 MPH doing so !

  4. Video for the Ultimate Swing Trainer “has been removed by the user”. Don’t understand. Also, video not working elsewhere by the Ad. . JDS

Hi Paul, Hope a is well. Like this slow motion shot. so this feeling would be the same as dropping it in the slot? Could you do a tip on “the slot”. I think it is important because most players want to hit and this may get them to eliminate the urge to hit.
    Thanks

    Paul,
I notice in your downswing especially at the release point your right shoulder is much lower than your left (this is very clear if you pause the slo-mo). This seems to be different than the helicopter drill in which emphasize keeping the club parallel to ground. Can you clarify this for me? Thanks,

    Noah

      Noah,

The helicopter drill is a warm up drill to get you lose and understand how to coil. When doing your swing you are tilted to get to the ball so there is no way the shoulders would be level going back. Coming down the right shoulder is lower due to more tilt in the downswing then when you first started at address. This tilt behind the ball occurs due to the shift and turn between the 2 pivot points (your legs). If you had 1 leg or hit it with your feet together you would turn through on the same angle you turned back because you would be swinging around 1 axis.

So just do the helicopter drill to understand is a circular coiling motion, the coiling create torque and the coiling loosens you up before your round.

  7. This is an excellent video and I am sure it will be most beneficial to my game.

  8. There are a couple of drills you can do ,in addition to this one to enhance your feeling of the lag .
1 Hold the shaft with the two last fingers of the right hand when going back ,then let them go when the rotation of the lower boy occurs .
2 Use the training aid called SWING MAGIC where the right hand slides on the shaft when going back :there is a movable right hand plastic grip you hold on which slides on the shaft .
You can also use the IMPACT SNAP device and listen to when the “snap”occurs .
The key to success is keeping the wrists very, very loose as you demonstrate.

    Paul,

What is the difference between the ultriment swing trainer and the golf fitness kit the Jeremy uses? Both about the same price. You could afford one which one would you buy?

      Jim,

The fitness kit is for fitness with all the other accessories. The UST is just for the swing. So you get a lot more with the fitness kit. The UST has specially sourced tubing so it doesn’t break. The fitness kit tubing is different so I’m not sure how it will hold up over time. I have the UST on my door. I have been using it for years and shows no wear. So not sure what you are trying to get out of it. If you would like to work out and work on lag then the fitness kit might be the best choice. Like I said though, I am not sure how long it will last.

    Paul,
I absolutely love the website, videos , and all of your instruction. It makes sense and I practice at home daily. I have identified priority 1 : hinging wrists, and priority 2: finishing the turn. Swinging without a ball I can tell when I do it correctly and when I don’t. But taking it to the course has been a struggle to say the least. Ball focus seems to take over and good hip turn after a full shoulder turn rarely happens. Any advice on that moment when the hip turn actually starts and how to complete it without worrying about contact with the ball?

      James,

Thank you. I truly appreciate it.

The wrist hinge should only take 2 weeks from what I have seen with other students. Just do it every night in a mirror. Once you get used to it then it should hinge on its own.

You need to watch this tip:

Right now you are trying to swing hard when you go to play. Follow the tip above and you will get it.
