    WITH CERTAIN FREQUENCY I WILL PRODUCE WHAT WE USED TO CALL A “THIN SHOT” ;
THIS I FEEL IS A LACK OF TIMING OR “TEMPO” AS MR. VENTURI VOICED IT. SEEING
THIS “TIP” EXPLAINS IT QUITE WELL !!
QUESTION IS ; EVERY NOW AND THEN IT HAPPENS ON A PITCH SHOT…BETWEEN 20 &
    50 OR SO YARDS…PERHAPS IT’S TIMING OR OVER/POWERING RIGHT SIDE …..?
    THANK YOU SIR,

    I. Saw Tigers new swing today and it looks so similar to your methods. Flatter shoulders, head moving off ball but not up and down, easy arm swing and follow through with legs in a grat position. What do you think?

      John,

It is starting to look good. I have been saying for years he needs to go back to the swing that was beating people by 3 to 13 shots. How hard is that to figure out. I even did a video on it here:

      Tiger Woods: https://ignitiongolf.com/fix-tigers-swing/

The whole issue is that when Tiger was the best e copied everything Jack Nicklaus did. He go away from that when he went to Haney. Haney is a flatter draw swing teacher. This is exactly the opposite to what Tiger was doing and exactly the opposite to what Nicklaus did.

I like where he is heading. He still needs to be a little higher up and fade it but I think in the near future we will see some exciting golf again.

    Hi Paul,

I was watching Golf Channel the other day and Martin Hall was doing a tip on practicing at the driving range.

He suggested that we practice by hitting 3 balls with our PW and then another 3 balls with a longer club ie: hybrid or 3 wood and we keep doing it repeatedly 3 balls with a short club and another 3 balls with a longer club.

He said this would help eliminate any tension when we hit the longer clubs thus treating it like we are hitting a PW. He said tension is the biggest killer when we go to hit the longer clubs because we want distance and in the process we tighten up thus causing us to hit bad shots.

    What do you think?

P/S: Loving your distance mini series.

    Thanks.
    Herman

      Herman,

      Stop watching the Golf Channel.

You should be warming up with shorter clubs. Then working on the bulk of your golf balls with a 6 or 7 iron. Towards the end of your session move up to longer clubs.

I did a tip on this here:

      https://ignitiongolf.com/hit-golf-balls-range/

What you are trying to do is repeat certain movements over and over until you have them mastered. By constantly changing clubs you are never getting used to anything because you are getting different feels, using different power levels etc.

Follow the tip above. Also, do he practice swings at home. I will keep saying it … it is all about the movement not the ball. So perfect the movement by repeating it as much as you can.

    Hi Paul:
I was wonderingly if you could leave us ( your students) a final parting swing with a ball at the conclusion of each lesson. I’m a visual learner and I think it just reinforces your style of swing (tempo, take away, follow through etc.) and leaves us with a lasting image to guide us.

    Thanks
    John

      John,

I typically add swings when I can. Lots of times I forget. I’ll try to remember it in the future.

One of your best tips ever Paul!

I’m still in my offseason routine of doing up in the air swings in front of a mirror each day, using a short swing training club and no ball. Is there something I should focus on to avoid the swing mistakes described in this tip?

    • Mark,

Haven’t seen that one in while. Glad you liked it.

Even with the short club make sure you are allowing your arms to stretch out fully. Will be a little trickier because the club is not as far away from the center (body) so you won’t get as much of a pulling sensation on your arms from the mass (club). I would do that plus feel where the weight is on your feet. Be careful not to roll onto your toes or heels as I show in the tip. I bet you can’t wait for the season to start.

It’s working Paul!!! Finally getting some playing weather here in Maryland – however, a winter of only your #1 drill a few times each day in the great room has really, really helped me bring the club down with the hips and legs – not the arms… As so many of your followers/students remark, at 73, wish I knew this move 30 years ago!! Sooo, first day out yesterday from the “old men” golds, threw a little 78 at the troops in the foursome – should have been better, but, for bonehead errors: hit the wrong ball off a drive, pulled 9 iron when I thought it had the 7, airmailed the 1st green due to “arm-less” swing that now gives me greater distance on every club in the bag. Thanks so much!!!

      Dan,

That’s great news! My favorite drill is paying off. I love hearing it. Sounds like this is going to be a great season. Just kept doing the drills and positions.

I’ve been watching the videos and practicing as time permits. My problem has always been staying put at the swing, and slicing. I cant wait to get on the range to put the practise into play.

Another great series of tips Paul, no one has ever explained this as thoroughly; the impact (pardon the pun) of moving up/down/forward etc. and how to fix it when you notice you are hitting the toe, heel, top bottom of the club face. Also, I always assumed the middle of the drivers club face was the ‘sweet spot’ – thanks to you, now I know better. Can’t wait for this season to start, so exciting!

      Sue,

      Glad you liked them. Thanks.

Winter is not fun. Everyone is always so excited to get out there. Just stick to the plan and you’ll have a great year.
