    Paul, another great info video. No one has ever explained the correct positions to begin the swing with. I learned a lot from just one viewing. I plan to go over it again and then take it to the mirror and then to the yard to practice.

    Paul ,Wouldn’t it be better to have THE club moving parallèll to THE Alignment rod until THE shaft is parallèll to THE ground.

    Paul ,I thought I was doing badly IN starting parallèl to the Alignment stick :thanks for confirming it’s OK .
    Now ,what is the meaning OF CORRECT SEQUENCING “.I just saw a comment from a WELL known Golf Instructor saying RORY Mc ILROY had a very poor ” SEQUENCING ” .How CAN it be when hé is regularly 310/320 yards off the TEE ,and IN général finding the FAIRWAY ?

      Raymond,

      Not sure what the guy is talking about.

      Sequencing would be the downswing sequence feet, legs, hips body, arms finally the club. Rory’s is great. That is why he hits it so far. The guy you are referring to probably teaches to start the arms down first (which it has been proven does not happen in any good golf swing) or he teaches to slide more laterally which too is wrong. It should be a turn and a shift not just a shift.

        Paul,I try to follow your teaching as closely as possible ,until now it has benefitted my game .
        Now ,golf ,for the golfer who swings the club ,is very much a matter OF feeling ,and you yourself have a ” feeling vidéos séries “.
        My comment has to do with the way I Start from the top OF the backswing : what I” feel “is That my Arms falling ,my left hip moving forward and turning to the left ,m’y right Instep and right big toe pushing hard ,all Starting at the same Time :I don’t ” feel ” the “POWERLESS Arms “starting ” after ” the hips .
        So do I do it wrong ?
        I Even read IN book from a ” long driver ” That hé said you should Start the Arms as fast as you CAN from the top .
        The problèm IN all this is the downswing goes So fast That you don’t know exactly what really happpens ,you just see the ball flying straight and pure …or not!

          Raymond,

          Powerless arms is YOU NOT HITTING OR HELPING THE SHOT IN ANY WAY WITH YOUR ARMS. So you would not even be aware of this until down and through impact. What I want you to do to get this is understand the concept and NOT trying HIT anything as you come down. Then let the clubhead go wherever it wants to do instead of helping it.

          DO NOT read books from long drivers. They only have to get 1 ball out of 6 in a fairway so they can wail at it as hard as they want. You need to get both POWER and CONSISTENCY. You need to keep your arms powerless so you do not manipulate the mass. Then you are basing it on your body rotation.

          The downswing is 1/4 of a second. I want you in a great position at the top. Then making the move to the Follow Through using the legs to start it. Through impact you let the club (mass) swing wherever it wants to swing. It sounds like you are making this way too complicated when really, it is simple.

    On another tip about toeing shots you gave me advice on using a taller setup to cure my lifting up on the backswing. I have been working on that for several weeks now and am hitting the ball back on the center of the club for most of my shots. But when video taping my swing at the range I can still see that I am losing my tilt at the top of the backswing and during the downswing, my back is straight up and down. I am really struggling with overcoming this. On video (from down the line) my setup and hand positions look fine, and I even checked the depth of swing and it looks good at the 3/4 point.

    What I do notice on the video at setup is that the ball position is off of the heel of the club, rather than the center of the club. I do not have this sensation when I am set up to the ball, but it does show up on the videos. Could this be causing me to lift up and thus bring the club down too upright and closer to my body? I can see on the video that I am impacting the ball in the center of the club, even though my back is too straight up and down.

    The other issue I have been trying to fix is a chicken wing and hitting with the arms too hard. Although I feel that I have made progress on feeling the arms extending much better through and after impact, I still have not cured this. So is it this urge to hit too hard that is causing me to lift up? I have been playing for 47 years now and it just seems impossible to break these old habits.

    • Bill,

      Not sure why you would be lining it off the heel. In doing so you would have to lift up to hit the enter of the face. When you lift the club pulls in so the ball is hit on the center. So that is step 1. I line it off the toe. You can too or you can line it in the center. This will take concentration and a new habit.

      Hitting will make you lift too. Funny how everyone wants to hit great shots instead of slowing down and actually fixing something. Why do people insist on greatness without working on it? Slow down and get the arms stretching out. This is the goal not hitting great shots. As you do you take the arms out of the swing. Once this occurs you switch to the legs and hips as the power source. If you keep hitting you have no incentive to stop hitting. This is your only power source. Turn the arms off and the only other way you can hit the ball is with the legs and hips. Get good at it and you will hit it longer and better than before with less effort.

      These drills are so you can feel your legs making the club swing. This is what you need to be working on.

      If you are lifting it will be unlikely you are ending up in this position.

    Paul,

    You mentioned in this video about the proper distance to the ball and in another video you mentioned about 6 or 7 inches from the butt of the club. I am assuming that 6 or 7 inches from the butt would apply to all clubs for consistency or does it change as you work your way up in club length?

      I don’t mind if you are an inch farther away with driver maybe even 3 wood but all other clubs should be 6-7″.
