    Hi Dave
How many times should this exercise be repeated before hitting the ball?

    Hi,

    Great question.
I actually incorporate it in the pre-shot routine when I talk about it in the W to W program so it’s done during the preparation time.

I also recommend golfers to do 2 sets of 15 breaths (30 total) in the morning upon rising and in the evening.. This gives you personal experience with it so when you do it on the course–it’s just an extension of your other prep.

So, you can incorporate it in your routine, do it twice a day formally and do it ANYTIME during your day to benefit.

Find the time that fits best for you on the course and see what feels best!

Don’t get too concerned about being mechanically “perfect” with it!!!

That is a fantastic exercise I felt my muscles relax while I was doing it during your talk. It will definitely help

Thanks David! Great tip as usual! All that makes even more sense after following the entire w2w-program!
Still amazing how pretty natural things are somehow lost in our “modern” world!
When do we see you and Paul together on the golf course again?
    Please keep going!

  5. Very good reminder of a a great exercise ,Dave ,thank you .
In fact I do the exercise at night ,when I wake up and can’t go to sleep again .
I count up,1,2,3,4,5.. etc then count down 5,4,3,2,1 etc,and inevitably I lose consciensenous after a while and go back to sleep again .
Never thought to do it on the golf course :in fact I do the opposite:I exhale completely twice ,all muscles of the body stay tight to a count of 5 ,then I inhale again :this loosens me up fairly well
When performing the golf swing ,a good idea is to inhale going up in the bakwswing ,and exhale going in the downswing .
Your insistence to “blow up ‘the lungs below the belly line is of Paramount importance

Should one inhale or exhale before the backswing begins?

      Fredrick,

At this point you are not even thinking about it. You should be exhaling as you are getting ready so you relax. Once ready you are thinking about coiling not whether you are breathing.

The line from years ago was: If you ever want to win you bet ask the person if they breathe in or as as they swing. Guess you haven’t heard that one. So get relaxed then stop thinking about it.
