Questions on follow through Part 1 and Part 2 are both excellent tips. It is so nice now to be able to quickly make the PROPER adjustments to wayward shots while playing. This is something I feel I am getting fairly good at, thanks to you. Prior to having your instruction available, I would end up making guesses (usually wrong) or taking advice from playing partners (well intended, but also usually wrong). In no time at all, I would be totally screwed up and have no clue as to how to get back on track. I will always hit a number of bad shots while playing, but now I know I can get back on track pretty quickly which is a great comfort. Previously, I had to head to the range to try to figure out what went wrong (not often successfully), and I don’t need to do that anymore. Thanks Paul, you are the best.

      Gary,

Glad you liked the tips. They are vital. Hopefully I can get people realizing their swing is not over once they hit the ball. This is one of the most common mistakes people make. I have said for years the follow through is the most important position in golf.

Definitely don’t listen to friends. They have no idea what they are talking about or if you even need to be working on what they are telling you too. Guessing … I did this for over 10 years. Not fun at all. Now, I never guess. Just keep watching the tips and understanding it. Once you do, you will eliminate any and all guess-work too.

Forgot to add something to my comment above. Good to have this a a two part tip in that you need to get Part 1 right or Part 2 isn’t really going to work out that well.

Paul,The seasoned Golf Guru ,DAVID LEADBETTER ,has come up with a NEW teaching méthod ,the ” A” SWING .
Hé boasts teaching LYDIA KO among others .
I just saw hé promotes having ” the hands outside ” when performing the backswing .
Having not read his NEW book ,I don’t know anything more ,except he says the backswing is the most important component OF the swing .
I myself believe it’s the throughswing ( From Point A to Point B) which is the most important ,with the fast rotation OF the hips ( YOUR méthod ).
    Any comments ?

      Raymond,

Many great players have had faulty backswings but they seem to hit my follow through positions. I like a flawless top of the backswing but if you look at someone like Fruyk even he hits my follow through. The follow through is still the most important position in the swing.

Paul, great self analysis tool. However, to your first prerequisite, achieving three finish positions, I am having trouble when hitting a golf ball. Specifically, I have no trouble
achieving the finish positions when swinging w/o a golf ball present.
However, when anyone hits a golf ball, the club slows down as a result of
the contact. The feel of hitting the golf ball and the resulting slowing
of the club head usually makes me not achieve the finish position.
Swinging faster just results in me “swinging out of my ass”and achieving
the finish positions is a hit or miss affair. I suspect you will say, *”Ken, hit
balls swinging easier while achieving finish positions. Then gradually increase
speed with lower body”*. Is this correct or do you have another suggestion?

    Later, Ken

      Ken,

So what is the problem? The ball. If you can do it with no ball and not do it with the ball you are thinking of hitting the ball instead of doing the positions. So slow down and do the positions. Right now, where the ball goes is more important than the positions. If you keep thinking like this you will literally sit here forever and you will never get it. You have to think like a pro. The positions mean everything. Build a great swing and you will have the right fundamentals. If you have the right fundamentals you will hit it like a pro.

So yes, you are correct. Slow down and do the positions. FORGET THE BALL.
